The way I figure it these players will definately make the team. C: Jackson, Cato PF: Thomas, Griffen SF: Rice, Williams SG: Mobley PG: Francis, Norris So that leaves three spots for Morris, Langhi, Collier, and Jones. The obvious player to go to the practice squad would be Jones, but since we are so thin at backup guards and loaded at SF it might be Morris or Langhi. Then again Collier could go on the injured list. Tough choices for Rudy T.
Jones definitely makes the active roster. His three point shooting and overall quickness mixes well with Moochie and Steves ability to break down defenders. Morris, Nwanko, Torres are all probably on the bubble. Francis /Norris Mobley / Jones Jackson / Cato / Collier Rice / Williams / Langhi Thomas / Griffin IR: Morris, Torres, Nwanko
I'm sorry but too many posters are praising LANKY and underestimating TMo. You will all see...............
Francis-Norris Mobley-Jones-Torres Rice-Williams-Morris Griffin-Thomas Jackson-Cato Griffin is starting because the way I see it, you should always start your best players. IR: Langhi, Nwanko Cut from the team: Collier
What is a practice squad in the NBA? I know about the IR but no practice squad.. Unless those players will stay in Houston and practice at Westside when the team is there. That is all.. Wait, can I be on the practice squad?? I'll show up, no problem.
I just feel that Collier is the worst player on the team, and will contribute nothing. I am also the official "Collier hater".
Both Collier[height] and Langhi[height and shot] stay. The rest I don't know enough yet to evaluate their talent. More preseason games are needed on who makes the roster or not...
I agree Collier has shown absoulutely nothing so far, but we need all the big bodies we can get man. I also think Torres or Morris shoot get the nod over Langhi because they do all the other little things that make the diffrence in close games -- like getting back on transition defense quickly, playing defense, rebounding, pressing, stealing -- while langhi seems to concentrate soley on scoring. We have that in Williams and Rice already. But the fact is Rudy is loyal to his players - especially players who have paid their dues -- and Dan Langhi in Rudy's eyes has paid his dues, so therefore i'd be a little suprised to see Morris get the nod over Langhi.
There is no practice squad in the NBA like there is in the NFL. That will probably change as the NBA developmental league grows. There are 12 active rosters spots and 3 IR spots. There has been some discussion around the league as to how stringent the NBA will be about enforcing the rules of the injured reserve - i.e. you can't get a hangnail or "phantom" injury and be eligible for the ir; the team has to play you or cut you. Don't for get that, I believe, Taylor is currently on the IR. I assume the Rockets will make him ineligible for play this year and that should free up that spot.
Nwanko IMO should be cut. He has shown nothing to me in the games that I've seen him. Like I read in one of Clutch's articles, big upper body, no legs. He's worthless. Although, Collier isnt much better, he's just a taller, fatter othella harrington. And Othelle is still better ! Collier may have a nice touch, but he doesn't know his range, and his inability to know when to shoot and from where will cost us. We need an inside presence. God I hope Jackson comes. Actually, I've never seen him play, but he has to be better than what we have now.
After the game tonight I think Morris and Torres made very strong cases for why they should be on the team. Flagrant1, you make a good point about Langhi's lack of regular season production. As of right now I'd much rather have Morris over Langhi. Collier showed that he will be servicable on the offensive end, especially when Norris is playing point. I think Nwanko needs a year or two more before he is ready for the NBA. He doesn't take stupid shots, but he has a way to go defensively. I'm starting to feel much more comfortable about the end of our bench, it's the middle of the bench I'm worried about. B
