we'll really see what this team is made up of on tuesday. if we can win on tuesday, we're real contenders, if we get blown out, then we still have a way to go imo i say rest tmac for the next game against the nets, we can beat the nets w/o tmac, let him rest for the big one on tuesday
HECK NO !!! The Nets game counts just as much in the standings as the Cavs game. ROOKIFY MOMENT starting this thread. DD
we can beat the nets without tmac, battier can do a good job against harris and artest can stop carter and we'll be good.
I think we'll prove that we are not an elite team. Boston and the Lakers showed that already (not to mention the Clippers, San Antonio, Portland and Memphis).
I remember people talking about how easy that last Grizzlies game would be... and the Pacers game. There are no gimmes in this league. I can see Harris zipping by any of our perimeter players he is matched up against and I don't see our interior defense stopping him either.
4th game in 5 nights. Against a rested team with a undefeated record at home. I believe we could do it but no point in getting disappointed and mad if we don't.
You want to put Battier on Harris and expect him to stop him? That's not fair to Battier. I bet you'd be one of the ones ready to trade him or call his defense overrated when he gets burned for 40 or something crazy Harris is capable of...That's a huge mismatch in terms of speed, especially since Battier is slowed by his ankle. This league is all about matchups. Even though a team may have more overall talent, if a team can exploit a matchup all game long, they can win games they shouldn't. Devin Harris is a huge mismatch, so we're going to have to find a way to stop the Nets from exploiting it. Oh and as for Cleveland, I think we'll hand them their first loss at home and prove (1) what we're made of and (2) how far they still have to go to even think of touching the Celtics.
LOL, that may not even stop him. As slow as Battier and Artest have looked, he would probably have time to get up and still blow by them... and Yao and Scola, too, obviously.
Good point! I still cannot believe that Dallas traded him away. I know a good Mavs fan and he's still livid ....
Has anybody else noticed how badly players like Thornton, Salmons and McCants have owned the combination of Artest and Battier recently? I think, combined, they are shooting like 80% against us. I understand that Battier is just coming back and Artest has the ankle thing but there has been some pretty serious ownage by 2nd-tier players. Who is going to stop LeBron??
I disagree whenever undo significance is placed on individual games. If we beat them, it means we beat a good team. If we lose, it means we lost to a good team. It may have other affects with things like our confidence, but it doesn't determine whether we are contenders or not. I don't know that Atlanta are serious contenders because they beat Cleveland. I don't believe Indiana are contenders because they beat the Lakers. Any team can lose or win on a given night. It may or may not be likely but basing the chances of contending on one game good or bad just isn't realistic. I think looking for patterns, and how the team wins or loses is a better indicator.
^^ I knew that was coming. Who is going to at least be able to slow LeBron down if we can't come close to handling Thornton, Salmons and McCants? Our dominant defensive duo can't even slow down 2nd-tier players right now.
no offense but ive always thought battier was a bit over rated on the defensive end, he did a great job on kobe last year and we all think hes the best of the best when kobe has torched him numerous times before
