Everyone offseason its another big name, surprising us all, doing it all without cap room. My question is, who do you think we will acquire (Player X)?

I know you guys will probably say Lewis or Grant.

    I hope/pray/anticipate
    ......
    Rashard Lewis
I really believe its possible. Steve Francis proly was mr.popular in school because he already is friends with a ton of people including rashard.

this kid is superb. i truly want him on our team. a suggestion would be to get a huge petetion saying COME BACK HOME RASHARD. if the kid wouldve went to 2 years college he would have been #1 pick.

we don't need no stinkin' players:

Although we always seem to get PlayerX, the only obvious holes that stick out are the Center and the position that Cato plays. There are no PlayerX's that would fill that role (other than the Franchises: Duncan, Shaq, Robinson, Alonzo). Everyone mentions acquiring 'Kandi, but he's more of a PlayerH than a PlayerX, b/c he certainly hasn't proven anything.

Also, trading decisions very well may be made in the next 4 weeks as teams like Miami and Portland get handed the checks.

Best guess: PlayerJ - Brian Grant.

    oakdog,

I began to get a nauseous feeling just seeing Adonal Foyle's name in this thread. Is that the feeling you got too? [IMG]

I think both Bryce and Cato will be gone come next season. However, I haven't really thought about who we can get in return.

Rashard Lewis is the only player I've had in my mind, but it's very unlikely. The Sonics will not trade this guy. He's got a bright future with the team.

I would love to get Brian Grant. You have to love his intensity and ability to shut down the Mailman.

My ignorance on Foyle's game must be making me look pretty stupid if he's as bad as you make him sound. I just thought he'd be a fairly good possibility, cuz he blocks a ton of shots (one of the top 5 in the league at 3.9/ 48 mins.), supposedly has a great attitude (exact opposite of Cato), and is probably leaving Golden State. If he could be gotten for the $1 million exception, I thought he'd be a pretty good pickup like a shotblocking Pig who is not quite as great on the boards. I haven't seen him play much though.

OK, if Foyle is not gonna happen, then I'll go with an old favorite, Kurt Thomas, a guy I've mentioned in like every PF thread this last month. Now I admit that I am not the MOST familiar with him, but I have seen him play in some Knicks games and his numbers are pretty good. He appears to be the most well rounded defensive minded power forward in the Rockets' price range (I'm assuming we can't get B. Grant) Kurt T doesn't seem like he wants to leave NY though, so I'll go ahead and cast my vote for Fortson if Foyle really is that bad.

    oakdog,

I was just kidding. To be honest, I don't think I've ever seen Foyle play; but I've read what some others have said about him.

Don McClean or Stanley the refrigerator Roberts.

Grant would be okay, I guess.

PlayerCrisco is always available and will play for food. A lot of it.

If we get Foyle I will begin the Rudy needs to go to AA campaign. He is what I call a black hole, his offensive game wouldn't even get him into double digits in a senior Y league. I'd rather go with Larry Smith as a player coach. I would like to go with Trent from Dallas hes a player who fits into that Brian Grant mold but would come a lot cheaper. If we lose Mobley I say go for D.A. of the clip joint. He's just as explosive and can shoot a little better, but his D is not where it should be.

Oakdog, yes people are being a little hard on Foyle. He does have extremely bad hands and just isn't coordinated at all. But Foyle would be a fine guy to sign for the veteran minimum or the lower level exemption. He is a very hard worker and is very smart, he just isn't going to develop into a starting quality player. But with his shot-blocking, decent post-defense (except against 7 footers), and rebounding, he is would be a good sub. Also, because of his ethic, there is never a problem having guys like this fill the bench.

I would feel far more comfortably with him being our main 4/5 sub than Pig or the Big- Mac Hamiltons or the Venisons or whatever food motiff we choose for our front-line backups. Foyle would offer more defense than these guys can, we don't have the luxory of comparing him to a Duncan, Webber or even Brian Grant because we don't have anyone on our team like them.

OK, I was thinking about this a little today while taking the CPA. There is pretty much no way Rashard's going to be here. Seattle can match all his offers and are intent to do that. They're not going to trade him to us either. Besides, Rashard is out of Shandon's league IMO. Shandon never scored 20+ games with Lewis' regularity or showed Rashard's potential at only 20 years of age. Rashard's going to sign for more than the exception.

Now one guy who I think more and more has that Player X vibe is Austin Croshere, who some people have been talking about. He's kind of like Shandon was with Utah in the fact that he's that guy on the other team's bench that always seems to make your bench look bad. Plus, Indiana already has Bender and Harrington. Does Croshere play the 4 more and how would he compare as a starter to Kenny T?

Croshere would be nice. The Indiana team doesn't have much of spot for him, and will be very busy this offseason, with Smits, Jackson, Miller and Rose all free agents. Do they have time for Croshere as well?

I'd rather start Croshere at 3....I'd hope he'd sign for a 2.3 exception, but I think it'll take a little more.

I wouldn't necessarily keep him till he's that old, anyway, just saying he would help us now and is very durable -- more than Cato, who's 10 years younger. With Dik, we'd make the playoffs and advance, with Cato, who knows? Depends on his mood. All in all I'd rather have cato, but only if he brings his "A" or "B" game (heck, I'd take his "C" game!). Problem is, 2-3 nights a week he brings his "D-" game.

Anyway, if the numbers don't work, it's a moot point...
