Who do you take at #4 or #6?

Given the Rockets desire to move up and the possibility that a trade of some combination of players and picks could enable them to do so, who do you choose for the Rockets if they are able to move up to a pick in the 4-5-6 range?

Would you risk it on a center, such as Woods or Diop?

Would you shoot for a solid performer like Battier?

Would you take Gasol or Johnson?

    Or get someone else?

Battier seems the surest bet, but he seems to lack the pure potential of Gasol, Johnson, or perhaps Diop.

At four, I believe they would take Battier, if he is on the board. At six, I believe they would take Gasol.

Who would you like to see the Rockets take and why?

If Gasol goes lower than 5, he said he's staying in Europe, so I don't think you'd want to take him at 6. Total waste of a pick!

The Rockets should go for Diop. Big mobile 7 footers are not often found. When you have a shot at them, seems like you have to go for it. There are many, many more perimeter players.

What about Tyson Chandler at #6 ?
At #4, maybe Kwame Brown, if he's there ?

If we got 4, I don't think I'd spend it on Diop. I think there are a fairly consensus top four players in this draft -- Curry, Battier, Brown and Griffin, with Battier possibly falling out of the top four (but I don't think so). Whomever is left at 4th is who I'd take. At six, I'd grab Tyson Chandler.

I would pass on the HSers. This team is close to taking the next and does not need a player thats going to require a few yrs to be ready. My priorities would be as follows:

    1. Shane Battier
    2. Joe Johnson
    3. Rodney White

If Battier goes at #3 to the Hawks then either Curry, Griffen, or Brown fell through. I would get any of those players at #4. as far as #6 goes I would select White or Johnson

Hypothetically, if you knew C-webb was ours, would it make you more or less likely to pick a HSer ? We're gonna be better with him anyway, but would a Joe Johnson make us a top 3 team in the West ? Or, should we take a guy who may have more potential like Chandler and still make the playoffs ? I guess you would want to win now, but if Chandler becomes the next KG, we may regret it in 3 or four years.

If there was a big man(esp a center) on the board with crazy potential I would take him over Battier. Even if that center would not contribute much for the next year or two. If we can end up with a stud frontcourt player in a year or two from this draft then i'll be damn happy. [IMG]

Joe Johnson has more potential than Chandler and could help immediately. Chandler is Keith Closs reincarnated.

Enlighten me, Crisco. What is the graphic in your posts?

As for the choice, I'm in agreement with you. As much as I would love to take one of the top small forwards, if we got a chance to pick as high as #4, I would have to take a big man like Diop.

It has occurred to me that the prospect of training him might be just the tonic we need to quell the Dream's thirst for a new challenge, and therefore remain a Rocket at a plausible number. He could be the next Shaq, and with the Dream to train him, he could be incredible in two years.

the graphic is just some shoddy ascii art of the letters LOL.

As much as I would love to have dream back, i dont think he'll come back unless the Rocks pay him big bucks, more than the Rocks are willing to pay. I mean if he doesnt want to take a paycut to play alongside webber, i dont see why he would do so to tutor a rookie.

IMO, i am positive one or more of these big men are going to be busts, but if the rocks can somehow manage to make it into the top six they should get a good big man because that is definitly what they lack and they will not be in a position to get that high up in the draft for quite some time, at least i hope not.

Crisco, I don't see us paying Dream more than six million. From what I read, that is more than he will bring anywhere in the league. Most can only pay up to the mid level exception, which I believe is about $4.5 million this year. So, I don't really think he will leave for the money, because we will pay him as much as he might get elsewhere.

My concern is that he might want to play elseswhere, such as in the East, because he thinks he can dominate there, and have a better chance at going to the finals. Let's face it, if you are the Dream, you have to believe that you could make that a possibility at any of 4 or 5 teams in the East. As much as Dream talks money, I still think that he has to be pursuing more than money.

Or, if the MJ return is going to happen, he might bolt for the Wizards.

Having a young man to train to follow in his footsteps may not have any impact on his decision making, but I think he does see himself as something of a guru. Maybe he will see some of himself as a young man in Diop.

Battier, Curry, JJ, Griffin if he fell to 4.

    Battier makes the most sense.

I really can't see taking Battier in #1. No matter what. I'll try a different tactic, this time Remember that 99 Duke team? Remember how much better Elton Brand was than Shane Battier? Elton's a very good NBA player, but he probably wasn't worth the #1. And that makes me question taking Battier that high, either. I would take Battier at 4 or 5, were he available.

    My list

    1. Griffin
    2. Curry
    3. Brown
    4. Battier
    5. Diop

I very well might be wrong [IMG]. In fact, I hope I am. I hope Battier's the next Michael Jordan... he seems like a great guy.
I'd take Griffin first. I still think he's the best combination of potential and proven skill that exists. He's every bit as athletic, etc, as these hsers... but hes' actually proven his skills at the collegiate level. He averaged 17pts per game, a goodly # of rebounds, and led the league in blocks his freshman year. Pretty sensational.

    After that, I'd take Brown,

My order of preference, even if we somehow managed to move all the way to #1 would be as follows:

    Curry; Diop; Griffen; Battier; Brown

Bigger is better, and I am happy to see that RichRocket, Vengeance, CriscoKidd, and PinetreeFM60 all agree with the point I've been making vehemently since the first day I posted here.

Who know's when there will be one, (much less two) big men with this size and potential in the draft again, while also in a year that the Rockets have the wherewithall to move up and claim one???

    Curry/Diop all the WAY!!

If I am wrong, I will spend my remaining days living in quiet shame with Stanley Roberts on the outskirts of some small town that nobody ever heard of.... [IMG]
