My hope is..none of the above. If I had to take one it would be Carlisle.I still subsribe to the theory that we need one of the coaching giants/legends.
My knee-jerk reaction would be none of the above, by far preferring Brown and possibly Silas. I guess I'd lean toward Carlisle, with MD bring up the rear, if there were no other alternatives. I just can't get the least bit excited with the thought of Dunleavy coaching the Rockets. Van Gundy may be an excellent coach given the right circumstances, but he's not the fit for the Rocks, imo, and overhyped because of his TV exposure. (and I can't get past seeing him shaken like a tiny terrier around the floor with his teeth and paws clasping Zo's leg, sorry... I know it's unworthy of me, because he couldn't help himself... but THAT worries me. I laugh inside whenever the scene come to mind) I guess Brown by several lengths, Silas 2nd with Carlisle closing fast, Dunleavy giving it his all, but running out of gas and fading... and the assistant with the Nets (I'm blanking out. Very late night and I just dropped a mug of coffee on the kitchen tile... arrgh) making a charge late in the race, but an unknown with little chance to catch the leaders. So, with this limited selection, I voted Carlisle.
With Brown gone and Silas and Cleveland having an agreement in place...... I want Rick Carlisle. I want Rudy back ahead of Dunleavy or Van gundy...
Did you watch the Pistons play this year. The amazing thing - they actually ran an offense - Hamilton coming off screens constantly, solid pick and rolls, good fast breaks. Just not enough offensive talent when Billups wasn't lighting it up. Replace Billups with Francis, and Detroit goes to the Finals, imo (one of the reasons I'd be comfortable making that trade if we get Detroit's pick - doubt they would do it). Carlisle was known as an offensive coach first, I believe. He would be a very good coach for the Rockets, ESPECIALLY if the reports that he can be a hardass are true.
it's all about which actor you want to coach our team: Mike Dunleavy=Kevin Spacey Jeff Van Gundy=Belki on 'Perfect Strangers' Mike Fratello=Martin Scorcese (director) Rick Carlisle=Jim Carrey Del Harris=Leslie Nielson
Mike Dunleavy simply because he's the most vocal about wanting to be here. That means a lot to get a guy that would give anything to coach this team...
Definitely Carlisle. I think his coaching ability is far superior to any of the other candidates. He gets the most out of every single one of his players. His team was a cohesive well-oiled machine that played smart efficient basketball. If he can get Stackhouse to be a team player, he should have no problems getting Cat and Steve to do the same. Never would I have thought the Rockets would have a chance at Carlisle. The Pistons made a colossal mistake letting him go and the Rockets must capitalize. Carlisle is basically just a younger version of Larry Brown.
With the remaining choices, who cares. Should've stayed with Rudy T with the current choices available.
Sigh......but in answer to the poster's question I would have to say the coach with the most potential is Rick Carlisle. Dunleavy would be like next day leftovers and Van Gundy would be like 4-week expired milk.
And had Fratello even expressed any interest in returning to coaching? If so, he gets the nod from me over Dunleavy.
it's not about who has better credentials. it's about change. and it's time for change. change of coaching style, change of plays, change of coaches...
Silas isn't getting any love? I'd consider him over Dunleavy, Harris and Fratello every day of the week. Carlisle, Van Gundy and Silas should be the only candidates on the radar screen. All things being equal, of course. Which they aren't. So never mind.
in order carlisle, silas and dunleavy. still say if we can't get carlisle then doc rivers may just be the man.
