Obviously not all of these players will be available when the Texans pick at 18, but choose your top 5 prospects (assuming they're available) in order from first to last you would take. RB's: Jonathan Stewart; Oregon Rashard Mendenhall; Illinois Felix Jones; Arkansas DB's: Leodis McKelvin; Troy Mike Jenkins; South Florida Aqib Talib; Kansas Reggie Smith; Oklahoma Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie; Tennessee St. FS/SS: Kenny Phillips; Miami OL: Ryan Clady; Boise State Jeff Otah; Pittsburgh Chris Williams; Vanderbilt Other Player:
Leodis McKelvin and Ryan Clady will be top 10 picks. I hear Kenny Phillips doesn't play hard all the time so I wouldn't pick him. I don't like drafting running backs in the 1st round. As a result, I would draft either Jeff Otah or Chris Williams because I don't want to ever see Ephraim Saleem start another game for the Texans.
Why are you assuming that? He is still only 25 and I know the injury was bad but he said he is ahead of schedule. I am not expecting him to be into regular form untill at least 2009 but I think he will be back by Week 10 in 2008.
Robinson would have to gain about 20 lbs. to play safety which I don't see happening since he relies so much on quickness and is by far the Texans' best cover corner. As far as the draft, I think the Texans' biggest need is in the secondary and would like to see them get Kenny Phillips or Aqib Talib. Reggie Smith would be a good choice too considering he can play safety or corner and could fill in at CB til Dunta gets back. I also wouldn't be upset with Stewart or Mendenhall.
Get a DB or OL in the first and pickup Mike Hart in the 3rd. A very underrated back who never fumbles and never loses yardage.
put me down with this school of thought... this years RB class is deep can definitely find someone to carry the ball in later rounds.
In the meantime we need somebody that can step in and play at a very high level opposite Fred immediately because we are going to the playoffs and could very well make some noise.Yes,we could go the free agent route, but the cost of that kind of player would be too high.Besides we've seen Lott,Woodson, and a host of corners move to safety when they lose a step or have an injury.Think about the nose for the ball that Robinson has,the kind of tackler he is, and no I really don't think he has to put on more weight than he can handle to do his job.It will elongate his career. I want to see him come back all the way too,but we have to make the move that's best for the team now.Quality safeties can be had in rounds 2 - 4.(or there's always free agency) I would take an offensive lineman in the second...Give me a Back in rounds 3- 5, via free agency, or trade.
Take an impact player, regardless of his position. Fill needs through FA and trades. I have a modest preference for CB or OL, unless we get a playmaking running back. Stewart from Oregon or Mendenhall would work for me. That running back out of Central Florida would be a steal in the 3rd round if we could get him. He's a great back. Tulane's Matt Forte would be a similar situation.
I'm right there with ya TJ....... Kevin Smith is a "special" player. I just can't see him lasting past the middle second to be honest.
