I've been a Rocket fan for around 10 years now. This is the first year I got season tickest. Something I've always wanted. Well my parents got me two season tickets. After the end of the season I say I probably went to about 30 out of 42 games. Sometimes I have to work. But my question is this - All my friends, my brother, my girlfriend (all of whom I thought were big time Rockets fans)keep on saying that the Rockets are not that good so why go to the games. They always come up with some dumb ass excuses. And all of this negativity is getting a little bit to me. I still dont mind going to games by myself. But now when I go to the game it just dosent seem that exiting. When the Rockets lose to the good teams I'm like "man what the hell". And when they beat the bad teams I get pissed because I want more ping pong balls. So am I just expecting too much, or my slight boredom with the Rockets mean that Im not a true fan or what. How do you all feel about the Rockets this year. I still love them as much as ever. I have a life for u smart asses out there, but the Rockets are a big part of my life. And now they are boring me a little bit. I guess I got spoiled in the mid 90's. The Rockets and Cowboys were winning championships, and now they both kind of suck. If it wasnt bad enough being a Rocket fan this year, as u can tell I'm also a Cowboy fan, and they are probably more dissapointing than the Rockets. Please relpy to only the Rockets aspect of this, I dont want this turning into a "I hate the Cowboys thread" ------------------
I've been a Rocket fan for over 15 years, and this has been one of the toughest to watch, for many reasons. 1. Hakeem's injury and subsequent poor play, and impending retirement. 2. Barkley's injury and end to his career. 3. Massenburg's injury limiting him to 10 games this season. 4. Our losing record 5. Our temultous fight for the 5th worst record in the league. (Face it we're not going any lower/better than that) 6. Walt's terrible 3/4 of the season. 7. Drew's lack of improvement. 8. Francis' turnover problems. 9. Cato and Rogers missing 17 and 18 games respectively. But, the fact is I'm still here, and I am hopeful about our future. I mean we've been through a lot this season and we've found out a few things. Our youngster can play. We finally have a legitimate all-star point guard. Shandon Anderson is almost Scottie Pippen's current talent without the attitude and paycheck. We might have just found our back up point guard in Moochie! Mobley is streaky, but fun and a good source of energy on the court. I unfortunately have not been to many Rocket games. I think I've been to around 5 or 6 games since 1985 and that's including a preseason game against the Mavericks. If you ever need someone to give those extra tickets to, I'll be glad to take them off your hands. Hell, I'll go with you if you want a rabid screaming idiot of a fan sitting next to you. One problem though... I hate the Cowboys and have for around 25 years. ------------------ I have a dream.........his name's Hakeem.
Hey dreamer I dont think I have any tickets left to games for this year. I think there are only 6 home games left. But next year when there are games I cant go to, the tickets would be all yours. On a side note, I just want to know how come every single person on this board is a Cowboy hater. And Achebe I tried to get in the chat room but what can I say, I'm the dumbest person when it comes to computers. ------------------
I mean extra tickets left for this year. My no good bro and girlfriend are arguing over the last couple of games because charles might come back. ------------------
I've always been curious to the Cowboy Haters as well. Not wanting to change the subject, I'll start a new thread in the "Hangout." ------------------ Proud Cheerleader 'til we move to New Orleans 302
Say bro....I'm a Cowboy's fan and have been since before their first superbowl appearance.(I'm old,41) so there are Cowboy fan's out here,we just don't mention it on the Rockets forum much.Glad to here from you.Bye the way I'll be at the last game of the season to send off Charles and support our young on the rise team.GO ROCKETS! ------------------ "I don't think I'm better than anybody unless I'm on the court." Rockets3 First year for me too. Sorry to hear you have boring friends. My friends and I clammer for the tickets. We can't get enough. I still get giddy everytime I see that bear come out on the motorcycle. We always have a pool to guess which Power Team Dancer will be riding on the back this time. I was also thrilled when they added the new sound bites. We get a laughiddy addilly everytime Homer Simpson booos. And when Pippen came back...we repeated the chant, "You Suck...You Suck", hell it must of been 10,000 times...so many times I must have been stuck in a reflexive groove into the night, because my girlfriend kept hitting me in the shoulder. The highlight surely was when Barkley body-slammed Shaq...I threw my popcorn in surprise...that's something you don't see everday at WWF. But, nothing memoralizing this season more, and the grit and determination of our younger players, than the tooth I found and use to remind me how to be a competitor. I keep under my pillow for good luck...I'm sure glad I didn't sell that at eBay afterall. I hope that rejuvenated your fanaticism. If not, try this post, which I still consider the post of the season at clutchcity.net: Good Time To Be A Rocket Fan (No Kidding) cbrownfanclub ------------------ The farther the Rockets move down the standings, the farther I move down the bleachers.
ahh... that post washed away all of the cynicism of my past. I will turn over a new leaf, pursue the things of my youth, rejoin the choir- me-me-me-me-me that was a really good post. the wisdom of cbrown et. al. back in the heyday (when we were only 2-10) is a sight. ------------------
I have been a fan for many years. The championships were great and the 1st parade was a neat experience. I thought we would never have a world championship anything in Houston. I WAS an oiler fan also. But, I watch every game the Rockets play and go to as many games as I can and I still have enjoyed them this year. Yes, there were times we looked like we did not belong in the NBA but, you can still see our progress and I look forward to next year. No matter what our record is, I will always be a Rocket fan. ------------------
Mahmood Abdul Rauf. I think him or Dana Barros once scored 50 on us. Or it could have been both of them. And I guess I was a little depressed with the Rockets cause on Hakeem and Charles injuries. Thanks guys, now that you all helped me figure out what was wrong I am starting to feel a little better. ------------------
Rockets03: No, it was way before Abdul-Rauf. Now it has been bugging me all day. Hey - Michael Adams (?) Sound familiar to anyone? ------------------
Hmm... I started listening to the Rockets on a transistor radio when I should've been doing my homework. Always got in trouble for it. For late games, I'd fall asleep with the radio under my pillow so I wouldn't get in trouble. I think that was back in 1978. I was 8 back then, so I had been in the country for about 4 years at the time. LOL! I remember listening to Mike Dunleavy, Billy Paultz, and Major Jones playing while Gene Peterson was still screaming his head off. I used to love listening to John Breen and Jerry Trupiano on KTRH's SportsBeat as a kid just to hear them talk about the Rockets. I started eating Whoppers because I liked Billy "The Whopper" Paultz. Back then the team I hated the most was San Antonio (who have since been replaced by the Utah Jazz). All that being said, I'm not the biggest Rockets fan 'cause I'll never probably never pay to see 'em play. ------------------ <this space for rent>
yep rimbaud, it was Micheal Adams. ------------------ "Is it tomorrow, or just the end of time"- Jimi Hendrix (Purple Haze)
rocket03....i've been a rocket fan since around 3rd grade. i just turned 17 and am truly a rocket fan. i go to as many games as i can but sometimes i mean its not worth spending money to see the rocks vs the clips etc. i watch every game on tv and woudl go to more but i'm only 17 and cant' afford to buy seasont tickets. how much do season tickets run? ------------------ Shane "Save Our Rockets" "Life without basketball in Houston........without an arena that is what it will be"
I've been a fan for about 15 years...I would go to games and see who would humiliate the rockets the most. Two good memories: 1. That little 5'7" guy of the Nuggets goin off on the Rockets - making shots from everywhere - driving on hakeem. I cannot remember his name. Not spud webb or anything The crowd was cheering everytime he got the ball. 2. When John Stockton passed Magic in carreer assists and the crowd bood him when it was announced. That was before the rivalry had even started... ------------------
I have the cheapest season tickets, and I think they cost me like $650. You might think that u cant see nothing, but u can still see pretty good from even all the way up there. Next year depending on whether I think they are going to be playoff bound or not, I'm hoping to get those lower prom ones that cost about $1800 I think. But if money is no object you can spend $28800 to seat on the court next to Leslie. I think the best season tickets would obviously be in the middle of the court around 5 rows up. They are around 6 grand though. ------------------
It seems like a lot of money...but I tell ya...you forget about it the moment they drop that huge pile of tickets into your hand. here's the price breakdown. $12 $25 $32 $44 center upper and lower behind basket $70 $96? $105 ringside is astronomical Multiply by 44 games (3 preseason's forced upon you). Now unless you like to sit by yourself...double the total for a friend. I got pretty good $32s on the aisle next to the $44s. Rocket3 is right...you can see everything. I think the deal of the house is the front and center $44s (upper prom). Worst seats are anything on the lower prom behind the baskets. Looking through the backboard really sucks. My dream is there is a lot of shuffling this offseason because people jump off the bandwagon...and I get a major upgrade. I've been saving for it since Barkley went down. Also note: Buy ASAP because you want to be 2 or 3 year veteran when the new stadium shuffle occurs ------------------ The farther the Rockets move down the standings, the farther I move down the bleachers. heypartner.... Even with all the crap that's gone on this season, I'm not putting any money on an upgrade. In the past five seasons, I've only gotten one and that was because the ceiling was leaking beer on me, and they were forced to do something. If you find a way to get upgraded, let me know - I'm sick of being sandwiched in between people! Actually, I'm hoping (fingers crossed) that I'll be interning for them and actually get paid to be there (that would open two more seats downstairs), but with my luck I'd be spending all my time getting the little kiddies ready for their jumbo jersey jog (if this is what they want me to do, I'm bolting for the Spurs). I'm not sure if I'll be there (possibly with the Comets, too) or not yet - it's possible I'll be stuck with the Astros. Golly I hate baseball.... ------------------ Jen Always defending You-Know-Who
Jenna, Upgrades are always offered...no? For instance, I was offered a $70 this summer, but declined. I guess what you're saying is I shouldn't expect a center section on the aisle anytime soon. ------------------ The farther the Rockets move down the standings, the farther I move down the bleachers.
Jenna, I would have kept your seats and brought a bucket with a big straw. Hey, free beer. ------------------
