Over and over again Rocket fans are coming up with scenarios with their hearts not their heads. If you presume that Yao and T-Mac are untouchable, which it seems Morey and Alexander are pretty adamant over, then we only have expiring contracts and draft picks to deal and a few above average players (Scola, Battier) to trade. Many on the forum have declared Scola all but untouchable as well. With that in mind please no more scenarios where we land:

    Calderon
    Camby
    Ellis
    B. Davis
    Brand
    Okafor
    Gordon
    Mike Miller
    Brad Miller
    Andre Miller
    Joe Johnson
    Josh Smith

These are all complete pipe dreams. Others that are extremely unlikely unless their teams want nothing but expirings are:

    Maggette and Artest

Who are some we might reasonably be able to get in a trade?

TJ Ford (injury prone, crappy shooter)
    Heinrick (off a terrible year)

    Others?

les spending 9 million dollars - 3 apiece for the #1, 2, and 3 pick.

I agree that all those names in your first list are unrealistic for the offseason, but if we hold on to our expirings perhaps those names will become available around the trading deadline. We have no idea who's going to fall into the lottery btw this year and next. Well, I have an idea, but we have let things play out first. Let's just say Dallas Phoenix Denver and Golden State are all approaching do-or-die seasons with their current stars, and if they aren't successful then it will mean a complete roster overhaul.

Good point. Some might be available at the trade deadline.

take it easy. it's unlikely that we pick those guys up, but it's not impossible.

scola was traded for a euro point guard who couldn't get off our bench. he might average a double double next year.

pau gasol was just traded for young players and trash.

rudy gay was traded for an overrated perimeter defender......(kidding....I'm just kidding....I like battier)

there have been some mind boggling trades made in the past, and there are teams with talent looking to dump salary. they're not just pipe dreams.

Yeah, getting Gasol for Kwame Brown or picking up Scola for a Euro who wanted to go home....stuff like that never happens.

It really doesn't...not that often. Its a pipe dream. Some of the people on his list are questionable though. They aren't all stars are anything. I kinda agree with him though alot of these trade suggestions are a little far fetched. Usually, only the terrible teams stuck with bad contracts are looking to take on expiring contracts more than talent.

The Gasol trade was a complete freak and Memphis is getting killed for it. Look at the list, Scola was an unproven foreign player. We really did get a steal. My point is those guys on the list are not unproven or unknown and we have next to nothing to offer, so it is a pipedream, except maybe at the trade deadline to a team desperate for expiring contracts.

let people discuss players that they think might be available. everyone on that list is likely to be moved somewhere, for a variety of different reasons. it's not like people are realistically thinking we'll swing a chuck hayes for lebron deal. if it gets out of hand, the mods can handle it. I don't think we need a post telling people who they can or can't post about.

Point taken, but it would be nice to have discussion on realistic trade options instead of all the discussion being dominated by unattainable players.

Every one wants the Rockets to pick up a Calderon or Brand, but imo it gets boring discussing trades that will never happen. It is much more interesting to discuss the merits of a trade for TJ or Diop or someone we actually have a chance for. But it is my opinion and it was probably arrogant to start a thread asking people not to post about certain players.

If you want to really upgrade the team, the only ways are to steal for damage goods, or to get luck on draft, or to send expired contracts to rebuilding teams.

Take a look at recent 30 years of NBA Champions. they all did the same things.

    Thank you.

Its always puzzling for me to hear people say "i don't want him, he's a cancer" even though the guy is way better than our other options. I could care less what someone acts like as long as they're an upgrade. I remember the Heat put up with Antoine Walker, got a ring. Bulls put up with Rodman, got a ring. Spurs put up with Stephen Jackson, got a ring. Anyone remember mad max. Come on, its about talent not attitudes.

Why would Brad Miller be a pipe dream? I'm not saying I want him, but I don't see why a team would not be willing to deal a player that averages 13ppg making over $10 million a year on a bad team. Brad Miller is only a pipe dream if you expect us to trade for a high priced center when we already have Yao. I wouldn't call Ben Gordon a complete pipe dream either, although I wouldn't want him. Camby may become available during the season, if the Nuggets struggle during the first half. I think they may be on the verge of a rebuild as it becomes increasingly clear that an AI and Carmelo combo isn't going to work.

Mike Miller is the most realistic option on your list. We all know by the time next year's trade deadline comes Memphis will come to their senses and then we may have a chance to snag him.

I agree. The only stud I think we have a chance to get is Artest, and that's because his history of bad and stupid behavior might scare away other teams.

You gotta be willing to break a few eggs to make your omelet. Everyone salivates at top level talent but want to throw the other team crap that even WE can't stomach.

"If somehow we can turn BJax and Luther Head for Artest, I'm all aboard!"
"We should trade BJax and Head to Chicago for Hinrich since they OBVIOUSLY have no use for him now"
"I mean, Artest is an All-Star caliber player and can defend 3 different positions but ...give up Scola for him? How about Hayes instead?"
"BJax for Calderon? BJax for Mike Miller? Bueller? Bueller?"

Mike Miller may not be a pipe dream though it may seemed so at the moment. Lakers was in talk with Memphis for a year before they landed Gasol.
If Memphis is still interested with expiring contract, we have a chance.
