As I was looking at my stack of games that I have purchased the past few monthes (COD4, BioShock, Nba 2k8, Assassins Creed, Mass Effect, Rock Band (just the game)) I was wondering what the best year for gaming was? For instance, what year was the best year, in cluchfans opinion, for game releases? My vote really has to be this year so far, its been a long time since I have bought this many games in a little span of time and all the game mentioned above were quality, highly reviewed games. What do you guys think?
2004 Was a sick year for gaming with Ninja Gaiden, Star Wars Battlefront, Halo2, Half Life 2, NFL 2K5, FarCry, The Chronicles of Riddick, Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, Metal Gear Solid 3, Doom 3, and World of Warcraft.
2001 was pretty big. You had Halo, GTA III, Final Fantasy X, Gran Turismo 3, Super Smash Bros Melee, Devil May Cry, MGS 2, Jak & Daxter, Ico, Max Payne, Paper Mario, Twisted Metal Black, and Silent Hill 2 just to name a few (I'm serious ). I didn't really think about other years since I remembered 2001 being pretty big (FFX, Halo, GTA III, etc.). BTW, I used Gamerankings to sort release dates, so hopefully these are all correct. If some games didn't get delayed (MGS4, SSBB, GTAIV, etc.), 2007 might be close, but since those games didn't make it, I don't think it really compares to 2001, or even a few other years probably (although the handheld games are probably much better at this point). edit: I'll note that I've yet to play 4-5 major games that I am hoping to play relatively soon, so my opinion might change...although I doubt that will be the case.
1998. The year Dance Dance Revolution came out. It united nerds world wide who aspired to learn how to dance and attract hot chicks at the clubs.
I was thinking the same. For "Best year for gaming" award, the game has to last me a little bit longer than a few weeks of entertainment.

I think the best years for gaming (at least for pc) was in the late 90's when online gaming's popularity started to sky rocket.
