Who would you keep? Barry, Wesley, James or Sura.

Also, how do you post a poll?

I have to go with Sura and Barry. I thought that those two guys meant more to our chemistry than anyone else. If we can get value back from James and Wesley through trades I would do it.

I would have to take James and Barry simply because of what they bring.

James is young and a guy we targetted for a while. yes on occasion he does tend to dribble too much or look for his shot but overall he brings amazing quickness and fire power off the bench of even starting. I still think we need a true PG even with James on the team.

Barry is definently needed for his leadership and his clutch shooting. The guy is just too basketball smart to let go if we get him for a cheap price.

Sura is injury prone and Wesley is much like james only a bit slower. Might be a better defender that James but very streaky. That in a way is a toss up skills wise but having a younger James is better off for me.

I think trying to keep two of the 4 guards is a good way to think about the off-season transactions.

This should be easy for everyone to realize.

Barry and James. Both to back up our SG and PG.

We will never get to the Finals with a Sura/Wesley starting in our backcourt.

Wesley was the best defender probably the hardest working out of the 4 yet he's getting no respect.

Poor guy busts his balls for us, helps turn the team around without getting an ounce of props from anyone---now everybody says "see ya."

Harsh business, but a business it is.....and will remain.:(

They are all expendable. We need new starters at both positions.
Trade whatever we need to get new starters, keep what's left.

As said already, really all of them are expendible. But let's take a look at them

James: The youngest of the group. He serves a purpose here because he is the quickest of the guards and really the only one that can create his own shot. With that said, he could easily be moved to upgrade the position. But considering our lack of quickness at the guard spots right now, I wouldnt see him moved unless we got another quick guard in return.

Wesley: His defense against quick SGs is underrated, but he is 34. And this is the last year of his contract at 4.5M. Probably is the most attractive of our expiring contracts. And since we want to increase footspeed at the guard spots, get taller, and younger I see Wesley's expiring deal being moved at some time this year. Wesley would be a solid rental for any team as a guard coming off the bench.

Barry: At this stage of his career he is all but retired. In fact he already said if he doesnt come back to the Rockets he will retire. I think Barry will come back. He brings a lot of good morale to the team and is a solid bench guy. He stays.

Sura: He was the X-factor this season, particularly during the midway and 3/4 mark of the season. Indispensible with his grit, hustle and rebounding. But Sura broke down. We need Sura's intangibles right now, but I think those intangibles might not be as important if we bring in some other players that can pick up some of the slack. Sura might be best served to be a bench energy guy or a backup PG. Sura could easily be moved just like Jim Jackson last year. Again, our lack of quickness on the perimeter was a problem for us last year and that's why Sura's lack of quickness is something we might have to address.

Ultimately I think Barry will be back. But I would bet that at least one of the Sura/James/Wesley group will be traded to upgrade the position.

BTW, in past posts I have mentioned I would love to see a S&T Antonio Daniels for Mike James. I think that would be a great trade for the Rockets and would help address the Sonics backup PG needs. That would be a nice upgrade for us. I have also mentioned a potential S&T Sprewell for Wesley trade. I am on the fence on this one though.

I agree, Wesley is the best of the 4. I'm thinking that most are questioning the age. Certainly not a long term solution.

Oops... well up there^^^ I meant to say, yeah he was great in the regular season, but in the playoffs with Sura starting in our backcourts... we will never get to the playoffs with him.

Sura/Wesley starting backcourt will never get us to the Finals...

I really like Sura. I love his attitude, his toughness. But, he is simply not durable enough. Too many health problems. Sorry Bob, but you are likely gone. I was impressed with Wesley's defense, but his shot is very inconsistent and disappeared at critical times. Bye, bye, David. Barry is smart, tough, and seems to make the clutch shot. He stays. James reminds some of S.F. which is not a good thing, but his athletecism keeps him here as a backup. Ward and Moochie are non-factors, terrible mistakes, and I wish they would disappear. The Rockets need a solid point and a tall athletic shooting guard, bad.

I would have to agree with most people in this forum. wesley is a great defender but his age and the fact that he has an an expiring contract means that he'll likely be out of the picture. of the remaining three, I would say the rockets sign JB for veteran's minimum since he only wants to play in houston for the rest of his career and make sure to keep the other three.

why can you only keep two .... most teams with a 9 man rotation use 3-4 guards every game

Barry and James, one for heart and the other for youth and quickness.

I like what Mike James brings off the bench, but I had to vote for Barry and Sura. Barry should re-sign for a very reasonable deal and was absolutely great off the bench.

As for Sura, I think some of you are mistaken. I don't think the problem is starting Sura. The problem is playing Sura way too many minutes. At this point in his career, he doesn't need to play anywhere near the minutes he gave us last season. Those minutes may even need to be cut nearly in half. In the end, I don't care if he's a starter or back up, I think what he brings to the team is just too valuable to give up. I just hope we see him enjoy a much healthier season next year.

I'd like to see Mike James come back too, but I DO NOT want to see him start under any circumstance. I love when he comes in and leads the second unit offensively, but I find myself constantly cringing when he's on the court with both Yao and McGrady, because sometimes you'd think he thinks he's the best of the three. He does dribble down the clock too much and he doesn't have a very good passing mentality.
