The key word here is young. A.) Florida Marlins (AJ Burnett, Ryan Dempster, Brad Penny) B.) Minnesota Twins (Eric Milton, Brad Radke, Joe Mays) C.) Oakland Athletics (Mark Mulder, Tim Hudson, Barry Zito) D.) Baltimore Orioles (Sidney Ponson, Josh Towers, Jason Johnson) E.) Milwaukee Brewers (Jeff D'Amico, Ben Sheets, Jamey Wright) Personally, although it is my least favorite team out of the five listed here, I have to go with Oakland. Those three young guys are awesome. I would rank the teams like this (best to worst): C A B D E ------------------ All hail Fadeaway's Cyberfish -- your 2000-2001 BobFinn* Fantasy Basketball League Champions!
Pretty even, IMO, between Minn. and Oak. The A's have the better hitting team, so I guess that would give them a slight advantage. ------------------ "For there is nothing either good or bad, thinking makes it so." - William Shakespeare (1564-1616), Hamlet
Brad Radke = not young. Oakland, then Florida. ------------------ It was the time of the preacher, in the year of '01 Now the preachin' is over, and the lessons begun . . .
I'll tell ya: TIM REDDING, WADE MILLER, and ROY OSWALT. PERIOD. End of story. The rest blow chunks . ------------------ RKMAN Proud believer of the 2001 World Champion Houston Astros.
I was wondering who would be the first to post that. Congratulations for being predictable. ------------------ All hail Fadeaway's Cyberfish -- your 2000-2001 BobFinn* Fantasy Basketball League Champions!
Congratulations for being predictable. For being predictable? You mean for being correct. ------------------ RKMAN Proud believer of the 2001 World Champion Houston Astros.
My working definition of the word young for this poll: 21-28. Brad Radke = 28. ------------------ All hail Fadeaway's Cyberfish -- your 2000-2001 BobFinn* Fantasy Basketball League Champions!
Yes! Miller, Oswalt, & Redding! If these 3 were so predictable why did you fail to include them on your list? Or why did you even ask the question? Nevertheless, good thread. ------------------ "...just because a clever person can complicate the discussion about the truth doesn't necessarily mean he or she is making any progress in finding it."
Hudson, Mulder, and Zito by FAR. I am extremely impressed with how this trio has been pitching lately. I live in the Bay Area so I get to watch A's games on TV and occasionally get to go to the Coliseum to watch the games. This trio has a chance to become something special, maybe even to the level of Maddux, Glavine, and Smoltz in the 90s. I am particularly impressed with Tim Hudson. He is the best pitcher in the AL next to Pedro Martinez, and he is only 26. Absolutely phenomenal. ------------------ "I look kind of dumpy. Look at my butt. That Clemens guy is pretty good. ------------------ I'm so amazingly cool you could keep a side of meat in me for a month. I am so hip that I have difficulty seeing over my pelvis.
This is a Houston Rockets BBS, so obviously there's bound to be quite a few people here who are biased towards Houston teams. That's why it was predictable that someone bring up these guys; not because they are good and deserve to be mentioned in the same breath with the other pitchers, but simply because they are Astros. ------------------ All hail Fadeaway's Cyberfish -- your 2000-2001 BobFinn* Fantasy Basketball League Champions!
Actually, 2/3 of that trio does deserve to be listed, Redding however, does not. 8-1 and 11-4 for oswalt and miller respectively, now if we had a 2000 like year out of elarton then I'd say we had a good pitching trio. ------------------ Anyone need a C/C++/Win32/HTML/PHP/SQL/Java/Perl/x86 coder?
Look at the records of the A's(your personal favorites) compared with the Astros. The A's have surged lately, but at the halfway point, 5they were the biggest disappointment in baseball. The difference in the Astros team this year and the disaster that was last year is the pitching. The Astros were an offensive powerhouse last year but without the pitching it got them nothing. Since the pitching overhaul, the Astos have been one of the best teams in baseball. The Astros young pitching staff deserves to be mentioned along with the others any day of the week ------------------ "If you don't understand it, don't try to understand it." -Carl Everett

I'd say Hudson is better than Clemens. Clemens has a better record because the Yankees' offense is much more potent than the A's. Here is a stat comparison: Hudson:11-5, 3.00 ERA, 116 hits allowed, 121 SO's, 1.12 WHIP Clemens:13-1, 3.77 ERA, 131 hits allowed, 131 SO's, 1.27 WHIP Hudson has the fourth lowest ERA in the AL among starting pitchers. Clemens? 16th! If it wasn't for Hudson's slow start, he would have even better stats. ------------------ "I look kind of dumpy. Look at my butt. And what kind of shoes do they have me wearing? Oswalt has a excellent chance to develop into an absolutely outstanding pitcher. Miller can be overpowering, but being 24, he is very inconsistent. Oswalt on the other hand, not counting the start against the Cardinals last week, was a very consistent and dominating pitcher, even though he is in his early 20's (23 I think). ------------------ "I look kind of dumpy.
