Which state do you think has the best public university system?

California probably has the best public universities. #1 Berkeley and #2 UCLA.

Which begs the question to the other thread with someone saying an admission UC Berkeley is the same as getting a tuition scholarship to UT or getting paid to go to UH.

 

Cali, their universities are not just top notch for undergrad, for many post grad fields they are top also.

Cali is probably the best, rankings wise. But at the same time, all of the Cali school have ridiculous tuition.

California, then probably New York. I think New York in particular should get points for de-emphasizing football. Although Texans are lucky as hell to have the number of colleges we do without a state income tax, probably the one thing that keeps us from being like any Arkansas, Louisiana or any of the other crapholes on our border.

 

California is definitely the best. I'd say it's best as far as total merit of all universities located within the state combined as well.

Their tuition and grants for in-state students is pretty well balanced. Even in the UC schools. Also, their farm system for UC schools is pretty nice which makes it a bit easier (through hard work in your first years of college) to get into a UC school even if you don't do amazing in high school.

Whereas schools in many places do not really offer the same opportunities for in state students to be able to get in after initial freshmen selection.

I will say though, tuition for out of state student in California (I went to a UC school for a while) is ridiculous. Same goes for foreign students. That's where they really get you. But that's pretty much everywhere to be fair.

 

My jingoistic impulse would be to say Texas, but I must bow to honesty. It's California. After California, the order may be more debatable.

 

California has a lot of top public universities but they also have a huge population to serve. Virginia has some great public universities in UVA and William and Mary.

 

What does that mean? I went to a Texas school.

 

This question really starts and ends with Texas -- state colleges in TX are amazing -- I had never heard of Creationism until I went to a state university and got away from the liberal public schools.

 

Whichever state you live in when you apply to college.

 

Simply that because I'm a Texan, my impulse is to say Texas has the best system, but I don't think it's true.

That was me and I am a Cal grad. That said I didn't say it was the same. I said that even if I didn't get into Cal I still would've gone to a college and in the case of UT and UH would've done well financially. to counter the argument that because of AA Asians aren't getting into college.
