We're taking a stroll back to 2001. The Rockets have the first pick in the draft. At the time there were various rumors regarding possible deals being offered for the pick. Choice number 1 is what in fact happened. Choice number two is trading the #1 to LAC for their #6 and #11 (possibly plus Odom but not sure). The third choice is trading the pick to Chi for Curry and the #2. The question is, which of these teams would you rather have NOW.
Well, I guess I'll get the comments rollin'. I picked the Chi trade because I think that would be the best TEAM. The scenario with Prince and Amare is undoubtedly the best talent but I think that a player like Dunleavy who can direct traffic would have been crucial to any succes that Steve and Cat would have had. Dunleavy also would have been the perfect spot up shooter for kickouts from Curry and drives by Steve and Cat.
What's he point of this website? To discuss the Rockets and I am discussing the motha*****in' Rockets.
There's no way that the Rockets would trade the most potent center, Yao... so thus, what's the point of speculating about possible lineups when it won't happen?
Hey, genius, he said Thus we don't have Yao yet. We were contemplating it. Choice #1 is what we did. Choice #s 2 and 3 are WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN. I'd take #2. Amare could be Steve's Dwight Howard here in Houston, and that frontcourt (TP, Amare, Cato) would be pretty nasty in terms of interior D.
But why look at past and continue to feel sorry for yourself... why not move forward with the lineup we have now and try to build on that instead?
That’s assuming Rudy would have ever been fired in the first place. The only reason he was fired was because Stoudamire lead Phoenix to the playoffs over Yao and the Rockets.
Fine, say that instead of "What a useless thread" *b**** b**** b****, whine whine whine* The purpose of a BBS is to let your opinion known, sure, but it's also to stimulate intelligent conversation. doesn't really encourage that, does it
12345- Amare is actually exactly the typeof player JVG thrives on. That is a guy with a nasty disposition who can actually dominate the paint. If Amare were coached by JVG and Ewing I could see him averaging 20/10 easily. The only real problem that I can see with that option is that there would be no shooters aside from Cat. The fact that I do think that particular deal would have included Odom just makes that deal golden. Imagine a 2004-05 Rockets team that had: Steve - Tierre Brown Mobley - Casey Jacobsen (Rox 2nd pick) Odom - Prince Stoudemire - Taylor Cato - any stiff out there
To have some fun?! I went with #2 because that could so easily have happened. As I recall, the Rockets really liked both Prince and Stoudamire-- and they could have had both of them staying right where the were in the draft... as I recall.
Let me just clarify everything: One deal was the #1 to LAC in return for their two picks (#6 & #11) and Odom. We would have chosen Amare at #6 and maybe Prince at 11, plus we would still have the #13. The other deal was #1 to Chi for the #2 and Curry. We would have had to choose between Jay Williams and Dunleavy at #2 and since we already had Steve...
No.2 is like having an Orlando Magic, good team but not spectacluar. No.3 is laughable. So I took No.1. T-Mac and Yao all the way.
Weren't we also really high on Caron Butler? I think we could have packaged one of the picks (#11 or #15 i thought it was) for 2 later picks. Quite possibly also picking Boozer in the process...but that's too much to ask for...
Armchair GMs who think they have a time machine after a tough loss are exactly what this board needs....
But, Panda, with all due respect, that "good but not spectacular" Orlando Magic team is better (and it really ain't close) than "T-Mac and Yao all the way..." team...@ least @ the moment.
