I know Dream's and Drexler's (right?) jerseys have been retired by the Rockets. I speculate Moses' jersey is up there as well. Can anyone let me know who else's jerseys have been retired by the Rockets?
Wo wo, wait, isn't Tomjonavich still coaching. How can his jersey get retired? Did he play for the Rockets as a player?? When? How good was he?
Ooops, my bad, I should. I just don't pay enough attention to those sections. To me, the BBS is like home. Why read a history book if you have family members to ask? Thank you for pointing out though.
just out of curiousity, who would you think might be the next guys closest to this list..... (based on what they did as a rocket) imo sampson and bullard....
Francis, Mobley, Yao and Griffin, if the current crew can take us to a couple championships and none of them gets traded in the immediate future(Mobley and Griffin have the least possibility of making it).
Why isn't Barkley's jersey retired? BTW, too bad the Taiwanese for Yao thread got locked. I was really enjoying the topic. Then, a couple dumb posters came over and completely turned it into politics . I was warning them there, and no one listened. Damn, I enjoyed the topic.
Com'on now, you know what I mean. Do I have to ask you like this? Why isn't his jersey retired AS A ROCKET???
I recommend you the book "NBA Encyclopedia". It is just awesome. You find almost all infos you ever want to know. by mic
Because nobody thinks of the Rockets when they are thinking about Charles Barkley. That's like the Sonics retiring Patrick Ewing's number. Barkley will always be remembered as a Phoenix Sun or even 76er.
i meant as of today... i understand these guy's numbers eventually might be up in the rafters, but who would be next as of today (how's this... no active players) btw, barkley didn't do enough as a rocket to be retired
Why in the hell we haven't retired Elvin Hayes number I just cannot understand: he went to UH, Game of the Century in the dome vs. Alcindor (aka Jabbar), first great Rocket's big man, #1 overall pick in 1968 by the Rockets, 50 Greatest....the list goes on and on with this guy. His history with not only the Rockets but with the city of Houston is unique in itself. Sure, he did more with the Washington Bullets, but his career started here and ended here; Clyde didn't have his best years in Houston, and he'll be remembered as a Blazer at least as much as he will be a Rocket. Concerning Charles, had he won a title here, his #4 would be up there. Personally, I'd like to see it retired, but I don't think its a lock because he simply wasn't here long enough. Anyway, we need to retire the Big E's number, dammit.
I'm not sure if very many Rockets who haven't made it up to the rafters already really deserve it. You can make a strong case for Elvin Hayes, I suppose. You might be able to talk me into John Lucas. But I kinda suspect if Dream and Clyde are already up there and those guys aren't, well the writing's on the wall.
My guess is that Francis will be retired and so will Yao if he stays a Rocket his carreer. Bullard? LOL you have to be joking.
A case could be made that Barkley's Rocket career was comparable to Drexler's. Barkley: 183 games, 2235 Rb, 720 Ast, 197 Stl, 442 TO, 3017 Pts. Drexler: 219 gam,es, 1338 Rb, 1192 Ast, 412 Stl, 568 TO, 4155 Pts. Not that he didn't deserve it, but 22 is retired here because of his relationship to Hakeem Olajuwon, and the circumstances of his return. No, I don't accept "the championship" as a reason. If that were the case, Mario Elie's 17 would also be up in the rafters.
