I have always wondered this (especially when watching Aaron Brooks get layup after layup rejected), but doubted that this statistic existed. Thankfully, with the Morey era of basketball statistics people are tracking just about every stat imaginable! Taking a look at the link below, click the column that says %Blkd to organize it by this stat, and we see that the winner is...

    The Chuck Wagon!

I love Chuck as much as the next guy or girl (read: Hayesfan), but it was funny to see some suspicions of mine come true and others debunked. Aaron really doesn't get his shot blocked that often (most likely because the majority of his shots come from the outside), but Chuck (and Landry suprisingly) really gets their shots stuffed at an absurdly high clip. Hope you guys find this stat as interesting as I did!

Chuck may have the blocked % to lead the league... but he isn't blocked the most...

Carmelo Anthony is... at 1.58 per game

:) You need to re-title your thread!

Edit: actually if you do 15+ minutes instead of 20+ minutes.. then it is Glen Davis above Chucky.

Just looking at it simply, a guy who shoots like 90% of his shots in the paint should have a high percentage of his shots blocked; and a guy who is 6 inches shorter than those doing the blocking should have an even higher percentage.

Sorry, I guess the title is somewhat misleading but I feel its more important to see who gets what percentage of his shots blocked, rather than total number of shots blocked based on usage. Obviously players who have way more offensive usage will have a higher total number of shots blocked (same goes for interior players), but it still does stand out that Chuck has such a high percentage of his shots blocked. Mods can correct the title if they feel its misleading.

Oh I was just kidding with you. When he's going against guys who are 7'0" and and taller it's not surprising that he has a high percentage blocked... same goes for Big Baby.

chuck was my first guess. i mean he is 6 6, brooks can shoot at ridiculous angles so it isn't as surprising that he isn't high up there, they need to come out with a stat that makes chuck hayes look godly...any mathematical geniuses on the board want to develop one? haha

The reason that Chuck gets his shots blocked isn't only due to the fact that he is shorter than most 4/5s, or that he is in the paint 100% of the time.

Actually, the reason is that he has only one shot, which is the two-handed layup off the glass.

Teams see that in their scouting report. "Chuck Hayes - defends well, keeps position, has very limited offensive range."

The reason Scola doesn't get blocked in the paint area, is because he keeps things fresh.

Brooks is 16th, 17th, or 18th on the total Blocked list as it appears it counts time for two different teams separately. I expect Landry may have been blocked more but don't feel like adding sac and hou blocked together.

9 out of the top 10 are post players, including five 7 footers (Pryzbilla, Chandler, Perkins, Haywood, and Dampier)...

That's more interesting to me than a 6'6 Center getting blocked the most...

But # of shots blocked per game = less points for the team. So yes, it does matter in this case who get blocked the most regardless of minutes and regardless of % of blocked. If Carmelo gets blocked 3 times a game, that could be 6-9 points. Sure, chuck plays 15-20 min less than Carmelo, but if he only gets blocked once thats 2 points.

Some of those players also are high in And-1s. Like Landry, Drew Gooden and Zach Randolph. It might not be enough to offset the blocks, but they might get blocked early then "loosen" up the defense as they go. Block the first 2, but you might risk your 5th-6th foul on the next block attempt.

Thats partly why maybe Carl Landry was a good 4th quarter scorer. Instigating fouls early, cleaner looks late.

Thats whats bad with Hayes. They'll block his shots clean. Then though he's improved his FT%, he doesnt capitalize there much ... :(
