In your opinion which rookie point guards would be better, the 1999 draft or this years 2003 draft?

    2003 rookie pgs
    #1-LeBron James
    #5-Dwayne Wade
    #7-Kirk Hinrich
    #8-TJ Ford

    1999 rookie pgs
    #2-Steve Francis
    #3-Baron Davis
    # 8-Andre Miller
    #10-Jason Terry

    Tough question.

Steve and Terry are more like 2 guards, but both are very good players. Baron is effective when healthy. 'Dre would be the only top tier "point guard" of that group

    03

Dwayne Wade a PG? I thought he was a 2. The other 3 are pure point guards including LeBron who has the potential to be the best player in the game.

I say 03 will have better point guards but 99 has better players.

I have to give you props on this one Franchise, this is a very good thread.

I think that the 99 class has better PGs, although this term is used loosely. In both classes, there is only one true PG: 99 - Andre Miller, 03 - TJ Ford. The 99 class, though far from the textbook definition of the 1 guard, are still better athletes and leaders/playmakers than the 03 class seems to be.

Lebron is apparently a PG trapped in a SF body, like Penny Hardaway, who now plays 2 in Phoenix. Dwayne Wade is a 2 who's probably going to play the PG position because of the incumbent Eddie Jones. Kirk Hinrich is a tweener guard who, though he can see the court, takes a lot of shots and had I think a 3 or 4 APG senior year.

Steve Francis is, as we all know too well, a 2-turned-1, and though he does get 6 APG, still has the shooter's mentality. Baron Davis is an explosive guard who is very injury prone. He makes everyone around him better by passing, but he does take a lot more shots than the prototypical 1 guard should. Jason Terry is a good defender, but he is also an undersized 2 playing out of position at the 1.

Wade is certainly not a PG. James may or may not be a PG. Hinrich may or may not be a PG. Ford is for sure a PG.

Of the 99 group who all play the PG position--only Francis is weak in APM and A/TO, thus I would say the other 3 are solidly traditional PGs. Just because you can score a little or even a lot (Magic, Isiah, Robertson, GP, Marbury) doesn't mean you are not a true PG.

Boy William Avery (14) and Vontego Cummings (26) sure were busts from the 99 draft. How dumb the Warriors were to trade Terry for Cummings and the elderly Blaylock.

Don't forget Banks, Ridnour, Gaines, and Bell as mid first round picks and plenty of later PGs taken this year. That could stilt this years draft of PGs ahead of 99--I for one think Ridnour is going to be very good and like him the best of the rest, followed by Gaines.

The rest of the draft class may make up for it, but Top 10 wise, I think 99 wins.

I'd have to go with '99. If you put all of them out on the court together, '99 wins hands down. Up to this point its safe to say that Lebron, TJ and Heinrich havent faced anybody as quick as Jason Terry or as athletic as Francis or Baron Davis.

It's very, very close but I have to say that the 99-squad is better.

99, no question. Simply because Wade is not going to be better than any of the 4 and Hinrich pretty likely won't be as good either.

Living in Miami, I have heard lots of news about Wade. He will be tried at PG not because of Eddie Jones, but because he has that kind of ability. Not to mention the heat want EJ out of Miami and fast. But if they cant get a good trade, Riley said expect a lot of Caron, Eddie, Wade lineups. As to your question, 99 has better players and pgs IMO. (kirk i dnt like)
