Not sure if many here watched the CU - Nebraska game because of the Texas - A&M game going on later that afternoon (speaking of which, why the hell did we have a 10 am kickoff when you guys are farther east? Oh well.), but it was an interesting one.

Watching the way Frank Solich ran Nebraska, and comparing it to the way Gary Barnett is running CU, it made me wonder why the hell Solich is the one on the hot seat and Barnett is more than comfortable here in Boulder. Both teams were fired up, but Solich knew how to attack CU (hell, it's pretty obvious. Find Phil Jackson, throw right at him, watch your team score a TD). Barnett had no clue what Nebraska was doing. Since my best firend and I arrived at 8 am for the game (we're hardcore), we watched the Nebraska kicker warm up. Dude was struggling to hit 30 yard field goals. So when Nebraska lined up to kcik a 49 yard field goal, everyone knew it was a fake. Except Barnett. 20+ yard run, first down. Later, TD.

Then there were the two-point conversions. This still baffles me. We've done this NUMEROUS times this year. In the first half, THE FIRST HALF, you do NOT attempt a 2-point conversion. CU could have cut the score to 21-17 Nebraska, but we decided to go for 2. Why? Well, after the game Barnett said it was because "neither team might score the rest of the game". Well, dumbass, then that means that we STILL would have lost if we had converted the two point conversion. We scored again early in the third and were forced to go for 2 because Barnett's brilliant play calling in the first half put us in a hole. Instead of being 24-21 CU, it was 22-21. Nebraska has a 4th and goal from the 2 later that half (NU was leading 24-22 at this point). If we were tied, they probably kick the field goal. Instead, they go for it, score, and we're down 9. Offense has to force, next thing we know, interception, game over. Nebraska wins.

Barnett pulled a Mack Brown and didn't take ANY of the blame ("People should have stepped it up to help our seniors out there"), even though he deserved a lot of it. He's notorious for calling stupid plays. I still remember the fake punt against Texas in the Big XII championship game two years ago. We had you on the ropes. We punt it, you get the ball, we still have the momentum. Instead, he runs a fake, you guys get all the momentum and end up almost pulling off the comeback.

    Wanna trade Barnett for Brown?

BTW, before I get attacked, I know CU is not a championshpi level team like Texas is this year. I was hoping for 7-8 wins. Realistically, we should have gotten it, but Barnett had the team half-assing it against Baylor, he was outcoached against Nebraska, and the Washington State game could have gone the other way had Klatt not gotten hurt.

I was thinking next year was going to be a great one for CU, but if Barnett is leading the charge, once again, I'll hope for 7-8 wins.
