I personally think losing Richard Jefferson is a good thing in fact. If we were to have Jefferson instead of Griffin, our record for 2001-2002 would be inevidably better, and our chance of landing Yao Ming would be much much much smaller. I probably would have happened if that were the case. Choosing between having a future all-star SF and a future super-star center, I choose the second option in a heart-bit.

The whole point of making this pool is to show that apparent misfortunes are sometimes in fact the pathway to greater outcomes in the long run. Of course, not every bad decision lead to better results. However, history has taught us that so many great achievements were based on temporary defeats. Some times, bad things are necessary for great things to happen. We need to look at every apparent crisis from a different angle and discover and exploitate the hidden opportunities.

Actually the incompetance of Smith isn't really his fault. After being an assistant for Rudy for so long, you can't expect Smith to know how to act like a head coach, if the head coach himself seems confused half of the time out there.

If the teacher is a moron, the student will be a moron too.

I voted for missing out on RJ but getting Yao. None of the other 3 have produced anything positive yet, they've only opened the door.

You can't say that getting sucky aspects of the team exposed is a good thing unless it actually leads to change, which I'll believe when I see it.

im torn on the griffin/jefferson thing. if the trade didnt go down than we most likely would not have landed yao. but we also would still have kenny thomas cause there would have been no need for posey. our lineup would be...

    collins/cato
    thomas/taylor
    jefferson/rice/t-mo
    cat/harris/hawkins
    francis/moochie(ugh)

would this line-up be better than the one w/ yao? jefferson would have been a nice fit w/ cat and steve and collins has proven to be a pretty decent big man (in the east, at least).

i think that in the short term this would get us into the playoffs and we probably would have made it this year, but yao is a guy who i believe will eventually win it all, so id have to go w/ the yao lineup.

Forget about Jefferson. We got Yao Ming. If you were to choose one, which one would you get?

Also remember that Jefferson was drafted at the request of the Nets. We might not have selected him for ourselves even if we had kept the pick. Also, I don't think that making the playoffs and losing to SA in 4 or 5 games would have tired out Yao any more than he was already.
