I'm sure this list has been done before but I'm in an argument on another message board about where the best basketball players come from. Anyway I'm making my case for Texas and I'm trying to figure which NBA players past or present are from Texas. I'm trying to name some of the better players but any help would be appreciated. Heres my list so far. Clyde Drexler Rashard Lewis Kenyon Martin TJ Ford Shaq Emeka Okafor Steven Jackson Desmond Mason Chris Bosh Others: Ostertag if I'm not mistaken Kendrick Perkins - too early to tell how good he'll be Ndudi Ebi- same Players I'm not sure of: (correct me if I'm wrong) Bo Outlaw Tim Hardaway Antonio Davis Darvin Ham Tony Battie I'm trying to keep it a list of those who played high school ball in Texas, not college cause I wouldve had Olajuwon if that was the case.
I'm prett sure these guys are all from Texas: Kurt Thomas Brian Skinner Kevin Ollie Jeff Foster Michael Doleac Grant Hill Andre Emmett David Wesley Mike Dunleavy Kenyon Martin's from Michigan. Antonio Davis is from Cali, where my vote for best NBA Player-producing state goes. Here are some notables, in addition to Davis: Paul Pierce Richard Jefferson Jason Kidd Reggie Miller Keith Van Horn Drew Gooden Gilbert Arenas Baron Davis Andre Miller Ray Allen Gary Payton New York ain't bad either: Stephon Marbury Ron Artest Jamaal Tinsley Jamal Mashburn Brent Barry Carmelo Anthony Clifford Robinson Elton Brand Lamar Odom
He played high school ball in Dallas. I thought Carmelo was from Baltimore or D.C or somewhere in that area.
It's kinda unfair to boast about how many good players are from a state since the population of Texas Cali and NY dwarf most others. If you want to boast about producing quality, you would have to express it in a percentage of good players per number of people in the population. Like: Auburndale FL has produced 2 good players with only 30,000 people. (good) Or China has produced 2 good players with a billion people. (not so good) It's the same reasoning that divides high schools into classifications by population to even out the competition.
For a small population, historically there have been a lot of good players from Indiana: Oscar Robertson Larry Bird George McGinnis Glenn Robinson Brad Miller (soon to be surpassed by 16-yr.-old Greg Oden as best C)
What about Sam Cassel? Did he play any high school ball in Texas? If not, how do you end up playing for San Jac if you lived out of state?
Timmy and Antonio both went to UTEP, but Timmy is originally from Chicago and Antonio is originally from Oakland...
A lot of NCAA coaches use San Jac as a sort of minor league to stash their Division 1 recruits whom either need a little more seasoning or can't pass the more rigorous academic standards to get into a 4 year college. I'm sure there are some San Jac alumni on this board who can expand on this, but Coach Arrowwas (is) well connected to the hoops 'ol boy clique and regularly competes for the national junior college championship.
