I really hope Morey handles the Battier situation correctly.

In my heart, I want Battier to remain a Rocket forever. No one is unselfish when it comes to money, one of my fears right now is that Battier will demand a salary more than he is worth. It's a realistic possibility. If he does this, we will probably just watch him walk to another team. BUT there is also the Morey factor... we fans don't know what Morey really thinks obviously, most of us hail him as a genius, the perfect GM. But what IF he does sign Battier at a large contract, say the same as Scola's? That will also make me cry. I love Battier and believe he will do great things for the future of this team but at the same time I really do not want to overpay. What do you guys think?

BTW I highly doubt we trade him this season.

Battier will get the MLE, the question is how many years, if it is something like 3 years, i think morey will match, if it is 4 or 5 than i think he'll pass.

it would seem the coaching staff rely heavily on chuck and shane to help mentor and develop young players.

my guess? battier sticks around. hope its not for scola money though.

I think this vote will be a no contest and everyone would rather see Battier moved than sign for a Scola type extension. However I think if he leaves, after he is gone we will miss his intangibles, defense and leadership and appreciate him more than we do now.

There's a possibility he will demand more than the MLE... Look at Artest, he left us because he was insulted by our offer.

Battier is replaceable on this team IMHO, his defense while still good is no longer elite and his offense is pretty bad on most nights. We NEED him to score, he's scoring isn't a luxury anymore but a necessity and we just don't get that on a regular basis.

I think Battier on a contender would be FANTASTIC and even better if they have a big man like DHoward or Duncan.

4 years, $16.5 million with a team option the last season.

You mentioned Battier getting a contract similar to Luis. Your username suits you. ;)

    please stop.

I will admire Battier even more if he's involved in a deal that gets us a difference maker.

great role players get players all the time. See, Bruce Bowen.

i think worrell said against the warriors that battier called the 20 second timeout right before half. turned out to be scola's buzzer beater. battier called the timeout for the coaching staff.

We only have one MLE... what if Landry wanted to come here? Who would you guys choose between the two?

Any contender would want him. The teams below I think are the likeliest.

Lakers - he would be better than artest in the triangle
Bulls - Thibodeau would love him back
Magic - would work well with Howard behind him, they definitely need more defense.
Memphis - could see them bringing him back as well, they need his veteran leadership.

There is no way that Battier gets a contract even remotely comparable to Scola's. Maybe 3 million a year.

I guarantee you he will get the MLE(if the cba is renewed), it's just a matter of years. He is in exactly the same position as James Posey was in a couple of years ago, except he is better than Posey.

I am in with this if we can get a team option on the last two seasons. He is slowing down now - in two or three years he will be three steps behind were he is now that can't be good... IMO
