I'm planning a trip to H-Town at the end of April/beginning of May and may be doing quite a bit of traveling around while I'm down there. One of my aunts lives in Porter and another lives in League City. My girlfriend may be coming with me and her aunt lives in east/southeast Houston. I'm not mentioning all the places we plan to visit either. So my question which loop is better, the 610 loop or Beltway 8? I know Beltway 8 is longer but maybe it has some advantages over "The Loop"? Any information would be helpful, thanks.
Actually League City to Porter is one of the destinations. I know Bush Inter. is closer to Porter than League City but I'm going to League to scoop up my other aunt first.
The Beltway would probably not be very efficient, as the NE section is not part of the tollway (lots of stoplights and stuff). The east part of the loop, from 59, over the ship channel, and down to 45 is always pretty hassle free. If you are going from Porter to League City, id go 59S to 45S, just outside of downtown as long as its not rush hour (then Id use the east loop).
Between 10 AM and 4PM you can go anywhere in town at the posted limits,so just plan your day to miss the 7-9 and 5-7 rush hours. Looks like the West Loop (Gallaria) is not in your itenarary anyway but it and I-10 are all you really need to plan around. You'll hit a lot of traffic on 45 between 610 and League City but if there is not an accident you'll get through it. Even when traffic gets bumper to bumper a 20 minute trip only turns into a 45 minute trip. No biggie if your not on a tight schedule. Bring your own tunes though, other than Sports 610 the radio sucks.
Well we may hit up the Galleria area, you never know. I know the radio sucks down there, ever since my first three trips to Houston I've brought my own music to listen to. Do they still have a lot of contrcution going on around 45 when heading up from League City/Galveston? I believe the last time I drove from Jonesboro to Houston there was some construction on 59 heading in to town but I could be mistaken.
