i was having a conversation with a friend about this topic and i think we are atleast in the top 5 with Malone, Hakeem, Sampson, and eventually Yao.............but i would have to say unfortantely the lakers would be #1 with Wilt, Jabaar, and Shaq....that would be hard to beat........who do ya'll think would be #1 or the top 5 for that matter
hell the lakers even had mikan in their minnesota days and he was the best player at that time. lakers have it all the way. but we're not too shabby.
We have a pretty good legacy of big men with Hayes, Dream and Malone but I think we could leave Sampson off this list. He only had two all-star quality seasons (and one more really good, but not all-star season)before the injuries and the trade. j
Warriors: Chamberlain, Thurmond Knicks: Reed, Bellamy and Ewing Celtics: Cowens, Russell and Parish Washinton: Unseld, Malone and Hayes
The Lakers with Mikan, Jabar, Chamberlain and O'neal most definitely have to win this contest but it seems safe to say that when all is said and done Hayes, Malone, Olajawon and Yao will be a close second. If Yao becomes the most dominant center of his era I really think that it could even be a tie, but at this point it's almost impossible to think of topping the Lakers big man history because all four of those guys were the most dominant big men of their eras when in their prime. Malone, Hayes and Olajawon were all great but I'm thinking only Olajawon was the most dominant of his era. (please correct me if I'm wrong but frankly I'm not old enough to remember their era). I believe Hayes was in the era Chamberlain dominated and Malone the era Jabar dominated, but again, I'm not fact checking this and would be glad to learn otherwise. =)
Abdul-Jabbar and Chamberlain tend to overshadow the competition, but because Wilt was in the twilight when Hayes was in his prime, Hayes's numbers were as good or better during the stretch they were both active. Kareem's numbers outshined them both. Moses, on the other hand, during his stint with the Rockets and the 76ers was the most dominant combination of scoring and rebounding in the league. j
