Just a question about your thoughts on sports. Do you prefer leagues that are fairly balanced, where many teams have a chance at the championship each year, and there are always several upsets. Or do you prefer dynasties ala the Yankees of old, the Lakers/Celtics, Jordan's Bulls, etc.

I ask because when I think of the Heat "Dream Team", I realized I feel very indifferent about it. This is because I'm really just a Houston fan, and I generally feel neutral about sports outside of Houston. For example, I generally stop watching the NBA playoffs when the Rockets get eliminated. I dislike the Lakers, Mavs, and Jazz, but don't feel extremely passionate about rooting against them(i.e. I wasn't depressed when the Lakers won this year). So I really don't care too much about how the field looks like, except when they hinder a Houston team.

So for you general sports fans, who do watch teams outside of Houston, what do you generally prefer? One or more dominant teams to love or hate? Or just generally good competition all around?

I like parity and balanced competition. But I'm also honest enough to admit that I only like that because it's never my favorite team that dominates.

I agree with the sentiment above. I generally like parity except I will gladly accept a dynasty as long as it is a Houston and/or CAL team.

The thing about dynasties is that they don't have to be mutually exclusive to parity...

The Bulls dynasty saw some VERY competitive series with Indiana, New York, etc, and all their Western Conference finals opponents.

I love parity more than dynasties... but dynasties that happen amidst parity are the best imo.

I think it's possible to have both.

Jordan's Bulls dominated but the teams they played against weren't exactly pushovers. They had to play at a high level to win.

I prefer LerBon, he's the bestest.

seriousness: I prefer Dominance. Just because of the way European soccer leagues are built. I enjoy potential clashes between the likes of superstar studded teams like Chelsea vs Real Madrid or Barcalona or Intermilan or even Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

I'm not sure about basketball however, since the NBA is the only league that matters, and it's only one league. If there are other leagues in Europe that could rival the NBA's best teams, that would be a sight. A basketball champions league. *drool*

I like dominance. More so when in regards to the teams I coach. I can't stand close games. Too draining on me.

I prefer competition. I only like dominance when it's my team that's dominating, but seeing as I'm a fan of Houston teams, that's rare.

I like parity, but only if there are a lot of good teams. During the early 00's, when the Spurs were the best team in the NBA, there wasn't a lot of talent as a whole, and the league was competitive, but just not very good. It's a lot better league now because there's more talent, even if it isn't as spread out.

Be honest: Who here knew the meaning of the word "parity" before ESPN & the NFL started hyping their league that way about 6 or 8 years ago?

I guarantee you dictionary.com saw an inexplicably huge spike in that entry's page traffic during the mid-2000s.

I prefer dominance. I like seeing David vs. Goliath every year, even if Goliath wins most of the time. I like vilifying teams and rooting for the underdogs. The major upsets are what really enamor me about sports.

I like strong teams at the top battling back and forth. I was too young to follow the Magic/Lakers of the 80's but that seemed to be the greatest time to be an NBA fan.

One team dominating at the top gets boring however, IMO.

Dynasties are annoying. It shows the weakness of the sport. Heck, even when the Dynamo won 3 MLS titles I was annoyed. It makes the sport mundane.

    Three time Champions? AWESOME
    they only won two.

I don't think the Dynamo were favored vs New England the first year. I could be wrong. Actually, not sure if they were favored both years vs New England.

Competition/parity present-tense; but domination and dynasties over the long-term or in retrospect.
