    If you could take all the games from the 1990 and all the games from the 2000s and match them up against each other, which decade would be victorious in having the best games?

    Depends on genre.

    FPS = 00s (extremely unfair fight here since technology hadn't caught up... but Doom, Quake and Golden Eye were around I guess)
    Role Playing = 90s
    Action = 00s
    Sports = 00s
    Fighting = 90s
    Puzzle = 90s
    Adventure = Tie (imo)
    RTS = 90s (Starcraft alone carries the 90s to the win)
    MMO = 00s (win by default here almost)

    Quake 2 was probably one of the best games I've ever played. The online gaming for that was intense.

    I wouldn't be so sure 90's win, most of the Capcom vs games were released at the end of the 90s and early 00's. Super Mash Bros. Melee was 2000's (the original was not as competitive).

    Definitely agree on Starcraft and RPGs.

    Not so sure about sports, I preferred the early 90's madden's and tecmo bowl to the current product, too much complexity sort of makes it less fun IMO.

    I gave the edge to the 00s because a lot of the "simple" 90s games are still around on new consoles.

    I assume the first part is about fighters. the 90's win easy, Tekken Street Fighter and MK series. There is no contest between those and most of what you have here. Some of those games set the market for fighters.

    In reality thought this is a difficult poll to answer, first like the 2nd post shows the different genres win in different decades. You also have to factor in technology advances, and the fact that a lot of people here probably didn't play some of the games in the 90's.

    If you're asking which decade had the most fun games I would have to vote for the 90's. Personally I have very fond memories of the games I played back in High School and College. Not so much from the 00's for the simple fact that I had less time to play, and less interest in the FPS boom, which many of the major games of the decade seemed to be. I think the 90's had a lot of genre defining games, while the 00's took those and expanded them with new technology.

    everyone voting for 90s was born in the 80s.

    I loved the Adventure games in the 90's.

    Cyberia
    FullThrottle
    Monkey Island Series (I know they started before the 90's...but the ones in the 90's were the best...Curse of Monkey Island).

    LucasArts was at its best.

    Speaking from a PC perspective:

    90s was great for RTS. Total Annihilation, Age of Empires, Command & Conquer, Starcraft (yes in that order ;) )

    00s had World of Warcraft... :(

    obviously you cant compare graphics, and technology because we have now more advances, and can have it more memory and stuff.

    Personally... 90's was just MORE FUN... it was just exciting to play games back then. Now it's almost like a chore.

    Completely agree. For me, there is no question that it is the 90's, or maybe even the 80's.

    The way I see it, the great games of the 00s were totally flipping amazing... like out of this world good, but there weren't that many of them.

    The great games of the 90s were just pretty awesome, but there were an absolutely crap ton of them.

    So, depending on your perspective and what you value more... almost anyone will tell you games today don't have nearly the awesome background and story built in as they used to.

    I tend to agree with you the most. There are a handful of 2000s games that I would rank in my top-10 best games ever, but the sheer volume of amazing games that were released in the 1990s wins me over if you are putting each decade up head-to-head.

    Just think, the 90s encompassed from Super Mario Bros 3 (NES), through all the 16-bit consoles (remember all those awesome SNES and Genesis games?), up through the bulk of the N64 and PS1. Just an amazing era for quality console games. Not to mention a ton of PC gems were released during that period.
