There are a lot of JVG bashers here and I know things are down - but I wanted to see where everybody really stands on the issue do you like JVG ? do you hate JVG ? do you just hate the haters ?
I like what JVG brings to the table as far as defensive intensity and knowing how to play defense...other than that i can stand him from the personell moves, putting people on the IL when they shouldn't be, his lack of offensive teaching ability. Just overall i would say he hasn't done what this team has needed.
I am not sure I fall into the camps you list. For the record, I was for the JVG hire because I felt this team needed more discipline and compared to the other coaches available I felt he was the best out there (after Brown was hired). I felt JVG did a good job with the team last year. But this year, I just feel he is not doing a good enough job adjusting to his players. Getting the best out of them. And that has soured me a bit. So put me in the "was once happy with JVG but now is somewhat displeased with JVG" camp. We'll see how the rest of the season goes and I will make another judgement at that time.
I have my problems with the way JVG is coaching this team. But I don't think he is the biggest problem with team. The biggest problem comes from lack of leadership from the players. We have players who have the tools to be leaders but not the attitude. Fix that first, and only then can we fairly assess what else needs to be done.
I agree - that is why I wanted to post the poll with such black and white answers. I don't love JVG, but I don't care for the posters who just seem to HATE Van Gundy for the sake of hating Van Gundy ... without putting any blame on the players or Rudy T (and CD).
I was real pleased about getting JVG last year as I felt that team needed someone more strict with our young players. Now the tables have turned and we have the oldest team in the nba, JVGs antics are not working with this veteren team.
I dont know yet. JVG brings alot to the table and his defensive philosophy and attention to detail are astounding. But its his ability to miss something so obvious and stubborness that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Its the way he treats our players and calls them out in the media. Its the way he cant manage the game (timeouts/rotations/adjustments) that leaves me wanting more. The fact he cant motivate all of our players to play hard everyday is also a big issue. Its almost like the players are tuning him out and once you lose the players respect your tenure is over. I will withhold my judgement for now since he seems to be moving in the right direction lately. But by All Star break we should start seeing improvement or he is out in my book. *sidenote.. Yao always seems to play better before and after all star break which might make JVG look better than he is.. fyi. J
I feel like a father whos daughter has run off and married a loser - I hope that everything works out, but I have my doubts that it will be for the best and it doesn't give me joy watching a disaster happen.
I was excited when we got JVG, I did want Dunleavy though. But I thought JVG would be able to discipline the team and make them play defense, which he did, but he did by taking away from everything else. This isn't last year's team. They don't need discipline, they don't need a coach watching them over their shoulder on every play. They need a coach with a system that fits the players and let them play. JVG isn't the right coach for this team. Something is obviously wrong when you have Yao and TMac, and can't score 80ppg. Something is wrong when you blow double digit leads to the Hawks, Knicks, and Bobcats, all in the 4th quarter.
lol at the 7 lakers fans. C'mon yall, I know there are more than 7 lakers fans on here. Quit playing and represent your team. lol
I'd like to beat him senseless with a baseball bat. Then I'd really start. I feel like a father facing some loser who has molested my daughter, but who managed to get "married" in some godforsaken Vegas Satan chapel.
