Been a Rockets fan for a long time (since Hakeem days) but just became a poster recently. Supports the team win or lose but also provides constructive criticism (me think) when problems arise.
How about: Been a Rockets fan since the Olajuwon days, went to hibernation when SF and CAT arrived.... suddenly reverted back to loyalty when team landed Yao Ming
Now this is interesting. You just joined clutchcity on May 2002 but you knew it 3 yrs ago. Either it is a hyperbole or it's a lie I can think of another category that some people fall on: Became a Yao fan/bbs poster because Yao joined the Rockets. Will bash all Rockets players other than Yao, especially the two guards and PF, and coach when they lose.
In what way is the board "different"? A lot happens over 3 years and to expect a public forum to remain the same even after 6 months is expecting a lot. Are you perhaps reacting to the diversity of the board members?
I visited this board religiously since my sophmore year in H.S., never registerd or posted. Then all of the sudden I have to register to even view the boards, which angered me a little but i did it anyways, and since I can post now I do. Like I said, the board is diffrent. I used to feel a sense of community of Rockets fans when I first came here, it was a warm and fuzzy feeling, almost a sense of belonging. Now the board is filled with people either attacking or defending themselves.
That's almost the exact same thing that happened to me wizkid. Except I found the site my freshmen year.
Welcome to the Bush era. Our President and his folks have a way of getting everyone on edge and ready to brawl. The warm and fuzzy days left with Bubba.
I feel the same way Wizkid. I was coming on here for a long time to just try to get a scoop. The arguments were minor and there was a mutual respect amongst everyone. Since we drafted Yao it has turned into a Yao versus an other player, daily argument. It has turned into a everything is racism, every other Rocket other than Yao is horrible, we need to fire Rudy for not giving Yao the ball every time down court site. Cmellon's post sums it up best. It has become all about Yao and not the Rockets.
T-Man, no disrespect meant, but it seems like you have a problem with Yao, the attention he is recieving and the new fans that he is attracting to the Rockets. Yao is one of the most interesting players to come into the NBA in years and he has everyone excited so there is bound to be a lot of talk and discussion. The topics here are a reflection of what is being said about the Rockets by both pundits and fans alike outside this forum so it is not a case of some members turning this into a Yao versus everyone else BBS as you say. How do you suggest we discuss the Rocket's current situation and future without talking about a player who is universally recognized to be one of the pillars of the franchise for the next decade or so? Should we start limiting the references to Yao in deference to your finer sensitivities so that we create a more genial forum? If so, I also have a fine knitting circle I would like to invite you to join.
I moved from my native Ohio in 1980 and became a Rockets fan immediately thereafter. Saw them play prior to Dream and Ralph's arrival (Moses, Calvin, etc.). Worked for UH during Phi Slamma Jamma and danced for joy when they picked Dream. Criticized when they passed over Drexler for McCray. And that IMO is the only correct answer...state what's positive but don't ignore what you perceive as a problem. IMO, the current lack of civility is directly related to the increase in the number of posting members. A small town is generally more friendly than a booming metropolis.
This is not necessarily true. For instance, my date is April 2002 but I have been here for a lot longer. My former name was Enbehay and Writesmart before that and, well ... I go back farther than most on the board. I once loved being a newbie because I could get away with more. Now, there is such nasty newbie bashing that I have refrained from going back to square one. I prefer an upbeat approach to fan-dom rather than a critical one. All players can improve. None of them "suck." Win or lose, I am a Rocket fan.
Where's the option for a fan that can be partial when necessary? A fan that doesn't wear Rockets tinted glasses 24 hours a day and run to the BBS whenever (s)he hears a negative comment about the Rockets, be it from ESPN, the newspaper, Apu at Quick-E-Mart, or my cousin's mother-in-law's best friend's neighbor's son who is a cobbler in England, to post how we "should hate the person for saying something bad about the Rockets"?
Ive always been a huge rockets fan but I dont necessarily agree with some of the player and coach moves. fire Rudy!!!
None of the above. I have been a Rockets fan for a long time but I have been recently bashing them because of their poor play. I don't critique them only when they lose, I look at their overall level of play.
