Well, Yao played great at the WC, and China got a little more competitive on the World stage. I am glad that Yao got to knock off some of the rust and more importantly that he is clearly healthy. I think a nice sigh of relief is heard from all Rocket fans, and especially the front office. I am glad he played, and think it will help him be more prepared come October. I am PUMPED !! DD
Sheesh, I can't believe we still have so long to wait until the season starts. Overall, I'm glad to see Yao still be a very effective player. I wish China could develop some stronger guards that could feed Yao the ball better. Of course, we've had nba all stars that couldn't feed Yao the ball properly...I'm not overly optimistic about the coming season, but I am optimistic. I think the Rockets have the potential to be a very good team. Battier has looked solid as a member of team USA, Greece has done very well, and Yao has been the man as usual. If T-Mac stays healthy for 70 games during the regular season and during the playoffs...
just try and envelop yourself in a cocoon of football and this board. and if that doesn't work headon, apply directly to the forehead. headon, apply directly to the forehead. headon, apply directly to the forehead.
thanks for the scare. By your title, I thought he took a FIBA fall or something and was found to be ok..........give a fan a heart attack why don't you
I thought China would have 3 more games to play to determine it's final rank in WC? -- at least that's the format in previous championships? Can anyone confirm/disconfirm whether China still got more games left?
Yao lost 10kg (22lbs), now at 138kg (303lbs). He expects to at least reach 2nd round this season. He will go back to H-town after his 26th b-day (9/12). http://basketball.goalchina.net/news/100754.html
Well, actually, no, I don't think he needed to win to get more confidence. Considering the quality of his team players, I'd say he'd be happy for getting were he is now. Also his average scoring/rebounding was pretty impressive. He won a team like slovenia by himself...I don't think there is anything more ego-boosting than that. And I think he's now recognised as being one of the top-5 if not the best center in the world. If the Rockets had 2 or 3 like him(especially a PG and a SF) they could be champs again. It's good for him that he'll get an extra rest.
so by losing the last game, Yao is playing 3 less games as compared to if CNT had won? rox stuff must have paid CNT guards to suck in the game so they would lose! lol. let the conspiracy begin!
Don't be lazy.....wireonfire. There is lots more information contained in this Yang Yi article. Yao Ming said he had tried and given his best for the World Championship. He was not totally disappointed about the World Championship. He saw that there had been improvement in the national team. He said he was 148KG (325lb) with 7.5% fat contents before going to Sapporo. Normally at the end of a regular NBA season, his fat contents is 6.2%. Now he is down to 138KG (303lb). And it is time to go back to Houston, now that the World Championship is over. He also hinted that he is no longer like a 20-year-old who can recover very quickly, as those games really exhausted him. He said the national team requires alot of experiences. Just him alone playing abroad is insufficient. China needs to send their best players to play in various leagues to gain experience if they are serious about a medal in 2008 Olympics. The national team will fly home on the 28th from Tokyo. He will stay in Beijing until September 5th, and then he will fly back to Shanghai. He will stay in China all the way after his 26th birthday, i.e. September 12. And then he will fly back to Houston. He said once he is back to Houston, then he will have to start his training again, and a long season. He anticipated if everything clicks with the new players, then it will be a long NBA season. He expects that the Rockets will make the playoff, and they will have to reach at least the 2nd round, and therefore he will have to stay in the US and play until end of May. He said he will return to China then, but since there won't be other major international tournaments in the summer of 2007, he might not be training and playing with the national team again, like travelling to those European exhibition games/tournaments, but he will pay alot of attention to the progess of the national team. By the time he plays again with the national team, it will be on home soil in 2008 Olympics. So he is implying he will skip Asian Games (2006 Dec) and Asian Championship (2007 Summer). Is this great news to all of you guys ??
He is definately skipping the Asian Games this year, not sure about the Asian Chapionship. If they cann't take the Asian Championship in 07 without Yao they can forget about 08 olympics.
