    The Death of A Cavalier

My car has gone kerplunk and instead of investing yet more money in repairs for a piece of junk, I have decided to take on a monthly car payment. The thing is that I'm not sure where to go.

Have any of you guys had a great experience that you can let me in on at one of our many dealerships here in Houston? I'm looking to put down at least $1,000.00 as a down payment and can afford a monthly payment of $250.00. Is that even feasible?

Any insight you guys can provide would be great. Thanks.

My friend got a good deal on an Audi at the dealership over there by Richmond/Kirby. You can try that place.

Or if you want to take a chance on a used one, try craigslist.. my neighbor got a really good hatchback Civic for about $2,500. put some rims on it and totaled to about $3,000-3,200.

Isn't Carmax a reasonable, reliable used car place?

hey AB how cheap can one expect to get rides there? do a lotta ppl go and bid? i've never been to one of those. after visiting the site, i saw a few cars (Hondas) that my uncle might want to bid on, but how is the likely winning bid gonna compare to prices you'd find in the Classifieds?
also - is there anything wrong with these cars? the list doesn't really say if someone was murdered in them or anything.

this isn't the same as those auctions where the police sell off cars that they had to impound or whatever, right?

Fun process, pretty painless. Most of the cars are leases and repos. I saw an 06 H3 with 14,000 miles go for 26,000, 4000 less than blue book retail value. Mid-size cars like the Ford Taurus routinely go for around 10,000.

Honestly the next time I buy a car I'm going there first.

Stay away from the car lot. Look in the paper and then bring the car you are interested in to a mechanic-small shop to get the car looked at. If a small car is OK - I like Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic- dependable and hold their vvalue....

How does one go about inspecting these cars? Are they already pre-inspected or do you have to bring a mechanic along with you?

They have a full repair facility on the property and body shop. They do whatever is necessary to make sure the car is ready for sale.
