the Rockets won their two championships?

(And if you weren't following them back then, that's fine too. Were you aware of it at the time?)

Some happy memories to try to build up some enthusiasm and hope for the week ahead... BELIEVE....

I guess the more interesting question is what did we miss by watching the Rockets during their championship years.

My eyes were glued to the games.

I watched Game 7 of the first championship in a hotel in Miami. Knicks fans next door were whooping and hollering the whole game.

I got to watch the Finals the next year with Magic fans.

    Those were both good times.

Was in my apartment in Santa Monica, with the phone off the hook, both times.

After game 7 vs. the Knicks was over, I hung up the phone, and it didn't stop ringing for hours.

I was in New York both times. In '94 we got complaints from the neighbors who were of course Knicks fans.

In '95 I thought about trying to fly down to Houston just to be in the city when they won. A friend of mine living in Iowa at the time flew down to be there. I just didn't have the money to make the trip.

At my parents house both times.

The 2nd championship was especially memorable because I had a Family Law class scheduled to end 30 minutes before tipoff.

Unfortunately, it was a night class which contained older students. Older students always want to ask questions or convey their personal experiences.

Luckilly, the professor did not allow the elders an opportunity for soliloquy and let us out early.

game 7 of 94 finals spent in a one-room shanti inhabited by a family of 6 in Orange Walk, Belize. they had a satellite and could receive denver stations. unbelievable! needless to say, the family thought i was insane. i drove a truck about 20 miles on a dirt "road" from deep within the rainforest to catch the game. (i was working at an archaeological site for the University of Texas.) good times!

Thought about it, but since this is more for fun nostalgia than actual talk of game action or roster moves, I kept it in this forum... of course, it's not exactly "outside of the Rockets" either... so hope I haven't upset any moderators. :) I figured more people who would care about this would be in this forum.

When it was "official"... well, that was pretty instantaneous. It wasn't like the 2000 presidential election. :) I presume you mean just at the end of the last game? Well, either that or the whole playoff run.

    Anyway, I was:

For the 1994 series (when I first got into the whole Rockets thing), I was in the dorms at UT. Watched OJ's white bronco along with about 20-30 people in the hall at Kinsolving. Saw the actual win in the room next door to mine... I think.

For the 1995 series, in my apartment in Houston with my boyfriend. Not really at the games or part of any large viewing parties, but we didn't live very far from the then-Summit. We went out on the street to watch everyone celebrate... along Kirby... most of them appeared headed toward the Richmond strip. I had heard about all the people cheering from their cars the year before, and wanted to experience it.

In LA, watching on League Pass.

My wife became both an NBA and Rockets fan during the first playoff run. She became a life-long, diehard Rockets fan during the 2nd.

First Championship: At home in Houston... ran out into the street near the Med Center, I think there were a lot of Rice students celebrating.

Second Championship: I watched the whole playoff run from Boston until the Finals. I was afraid I'd miss the Finals though because I was in Middlebury, VT... doing a Chinese-language immersion program... they didn't allow any English TV/news. Fortunately, I was able to watch all four games against the Magic with Mandarin play-by-play in my dorm living room.

I remember coming home from working back-stage at my daughters ballet recital and wanting to watch the Rockets and it was pre-empted with the OJ chase.

I can't remember if it was the playoffs or the championship.

I was in NJ for both...but I went to the games against the Knicks at MSG.

For the Orlando championship, I was 2 rows behind the Rockets bench for the clincher

94 - after game 7, driving on Richmond with about 10,000 of my closest friends.

95 - after game 4, walking around on Richmond hanging out with my friend who worked for KTRH at the time and was interviewing drunk people.

i was in a bar in Antigua Guatemala.

I wasn't an NBA fan (at all)...was vaguely aware the finals were on...but we met up with some guys from Houston, and some guys from New York (I'm from Vancouver). The Houston guys promised to cheer hard for the Canucks -- and against the Rangers (who were playing in the Stanley Cup) if we backed the Rockets.

So we became instant Rocket fans....good thing too.
