With the anticipation of an attack upcoming... do you remember where you were and what you were doing when CNN first reported the beginning of the Gulf War back in the early 90's? I was a senior in high school...getting ready to go to a student council meeting...sitting on my bed trying to finish up some homework with the TV on...and then it began. I remember thinking, "there's no way we're gonna have this meeting tonight." but we did...it lasted for all of 15 minutes, though...and I went home to watch more coverage. I remember thinking it all looked like a video game. anybody else remember?
I was in second grade writing love letters to this girl, and coming home everyday to watch cartoons and play NES. Don't remember much outside of that.
I was a freshman in high school, and at home sick with a cold. The only reason I remember is because I haven't been sick since that day. Sort of like Jerry's vomit streak!
I remember the day Iraq invaded Kuwait. Only because I didn't give a crap about it and someone told me I should. I guess they were right. I was in the middle of an NBA fantasy draft tho'. Some things are more important.
I was a bartender at Blank & Co. in Nacogdoches, TX. I'm pretty sure I never once counted my till sober. Outside of that, my memory is a bit foggy.
I was 16, cruising down Westheimer in my beat up Suburban on my way to a YoungLife meeting when I heard it on the radio. We said a prayer & then busted out a tv to watch.
Watching CNN. I hope I've got the tube on when this one starts. I'm going to have a VCR ready, which I didn't think of back then. My kids might find it interesting at some point in the future. Live coverage from Baghdad, if there is any, won't last long. I hope the news people are OK. I wish I was as young now as I was then.
I was recording some tunes with my roommate at the time. We even sampled CNN and put in the background on one of the tunes we were working on.
Damn. I just relized I have no idea where I was in Feb 91. I think I was between apartments, between colleges and between jobs. I'm not sure who I was dating then either. Needless to say, I have absolutely no recollection of the Gulf War either. Is senility supposed to begin in your thirties?
In the game room of my fraternity house, feeling worried because our buddy Ralph had been called up by the Marine Reserves several months before and was in Saudi Arabia. NBC ended up doing a piece on college kids called up to duty and ended up interviewing a bunch of us Vanderbilt students about our fears for our buddies at war....allegedly I made the piece (I was talking about chemical weapons) but they aired it while I was showering, so I have no idea how idiotic I looked.
there's someone with a memory...that's generally the kind of thing i remember very well...i can tell you where i saw almost every movie i've ever seen and who i saw it with. worthless information crowds my brain...if only i could use that power for good.
I was in high school at the time. I don't remember the moment I learned about it. I really didn't much care. I do remember that my neighbor opposed that war and it was the first time the idea of opposing your country's war first entered my little mind. I didn't understand it at the time. I do remember what I was doing on 9/11 but I wonder how long that will last. I also remember what I was doing when I heard Princess Di died, but only because it was funny. I was in the middle of the move from hell and hadn't read a paper for 3-4 days. I was walking to my moving truck and I saw the headline about Diana (a couple of days after her death) in a kiosk. Then I realized I'd been living in a cave because of that stupid move from hell.
Gulf War........9-11...........Princess Di????????? I was at in my living room watching television.....my brother in law had just been shipped over there.
