First year... I was at home game 7 vs. New York Knicks as soon as the final buzzer rang I ran out - honked my moms car horn (i was in middle school) - then went out to Little York (where I lived ) and me and my neighborhood friends blocked the major street with our rockets signs - noone was mad - we had a 100 car traffic jam everyone walking by giving hugs and high-fives... We didnt get back in to 2 the next morning. Second year... My aunts house they had everyone on the street watch the game outside (they had 50 inch projection screen)... we again blocked the major street nearby and on the way home the freeway was blocked off everyone was out of their cars honking... We had a mini-pep rally on the freeway all of us outside the car singing the "HEY SONG"..... man those were one of the best times of my life.
1st year ...I was in my NJ living room...as soon as the horn sounded I went hunting for my buddy who is the biggest Knick fan of all time and found his car parked in a lot at a bar. Then I covered his bumper with Rockets bumper stickers 2nd year...I was 3 rows behind the Rockets bench for game 4...talk about a great memory!!! I sat next to someone's wife who worked with the organization and she let me try on her husbands championship ring frm the previous year which she was wearing on a necklace.
1st year - I was at home with my pregnant wife who loves basketball and was 6 months along. 2nd year - I was right behind the Rockets bench with Steve "Air" McNair and paid $200 for each ticket. By the way, I never landed Steve as a financial planning client.
both times i was in alief watching them with a group of friends. followed by trips down to richmond for an all night party in the streets...
1994: It seemed like every playoff game that year where I watched the Rockets with friends they lost and they seemed to win when I watched the game alone. So, I watched the game at home by myself. I have never been more stunned when they won. 1995: Studying in Bourges, France that summer. Me and a couple of friends watched the game live at 4am at a house that had cable and could pick up a feed of the game. When Hakeem hit the three pointer at the end of the game I thought I had died and gone to heaven. Woo!
First year I was following the OJ debacle and watching game 7 at the same time in my living room. And in the second year I was in Florida watching Orlando getting punk I really hated that Orlando team. I think that Shaq is an Arrogant Arse.
1st year I was at home, I went ape when they won. I was the only rocket fan within 200 miles I think, and people heard about it for-ev-er! 2nd year I was working in Jackson Hole Wyo. We did not have T.V. where I lived and I had to watch the game in a laundry mat. it was great until they kicked me out because they were closing, I didnt even see who was the MVP. LIke I needed to. Also If anyone has copies of the Magic series I would kill to get some copies. I had to work for 3 of the games, I just barley caught the last 3 minutes of the final game. I would love to see all those games again though.
1st year - at a campground in Arkansas... found out the result the morning after as my dad had listened to the game on the radio the night before. My cries of joy shattered the still air around Fort Wayne. 2nd year - at a motel with my grandparents, saw the score scroll across the bottom of the ESPN screen. I hadn't been able to watch the games, so all I thought was "Cool, I think they swept!" until I got home and found that my parents had taped the games for me... that was a joyous occasion
Yeah, anyone know a source for videos or DVD's of those games? I listened to the radio for those series except when I was on vacation during the first one. No TV back then or now, but have one at work.
I was at home watching with a bunch of friends when they beat the Knicks. Went outside (I live close to downtown) and could hear the noise coming from the Summit (before it was Compaq Center) after the game. It was amazing. But, the one shot I'll never forget was in '95, Game 1, in Orlando. I was at my neighbors house and it was the end of the 4th quarter, Rocks down three. I think there was like 3 or 4 seconds left. Anyway, right before the ball was thrown in bounds, I had that feeling -- that "they're going to clutch it AGAIN" feeling that became so familiar that year. Sure enough, Kenny Smith gets the ball, fakes Hardaway, and DRAINS it. The roof almost blew off my neighbors house, there were about 8 of us that yelled so loud and jumped out of our seats. I miss those days of Rockets glory...
After game one of the Orlando series, it was anticlimatic. The playoff run where we were down 3-1 to Phoenix and cameback is pretty hard to top. Some sweet memories there. Also, the draining tension of pretty much every game of the New York series.
