I'm heading to Austin for the weekend with my wife and some friends of ours. On Saturday me and my buddy's wife are going to the Bright Eyes concert at Stubbs, but other than that we have no plans. I know we have quite a few people on here from Austin, so tell me what spots we should check out! We're staying downtown, so places in that part of town would be best. Just wondering what bars/restaurants we should check out and which ones should be avoided.

Breakfast at Juan in a Million. Just east of downtown on Cesar Chavez. Have the Don Juan taco or the Con Queso breakfast. It's a must eat and a great hangover cure.

My wife and I (and our two dogs) are going to Austin this weekend to visit friends as well. Actually we're going to Jonestown as my friend has a house on a hill up there (very nice). I think, however, we are just going to laze around his house and drink lots.

If you are new to Austin check out Sixth St. It's got lots of bars and clubs and might be fun. The Texas State capital building might be neat to drive around (I saw it last year when I rode the MS and it looked cool). Also, there is a Texas state history museum near there that is supposed to be very cool.

I went to the State History museum right after it opened...it had to have been about 5 years ago. I think it was somewhere near 4 or 5, because it was when I was in 8th grade. We went to the capital and toured, and then walked to the musuem. I remember it being pretty cool/interesting.

Anyone that likes that sort of stuff would find it fun.

If you go to 6th Street, check out Pete's Piano Bar. I work there sometimes and most people have a blast when they go in there.

Definitely go to the Spider House. It's slightly north of downtown, but it's not too far off that it's inconvenient. Plus, they're open till 2am. I suggest a "black and white". It's awesome.

There is an animatronic LBJ at the LBJ library and museum. He is a robot and he tells jokes.
It's my favorite thing about Austin.

But if you don't drink the Kool-Aid, how else are you going to transport yourself to the Hale-Bopp Comet and whisk yourself away to the promised land? Oh, wait, I'm getting my deranged suicide cults mixed up.... :p

Head down South Congress for a bite to eat at Guero's then across the street to Continental Club, to experience the best live music in Austin.

    Guaranteed to please.

For late nite eats, check out Magnolia Cafe on South Congress as well (very close to downtown).

    yes 6th street blows.

Head for a cocktail at 2 of my favorite places on 4th: Speakeasy (in an alley), and Red Fez (on the same street as Antone's).

Sorry to bring up the old thread, but I'm going to Austin this weekend, want to ask if there are any good bars or clubs for people under 21.
