Im up at night and I watch the episode of Seinfeld where Kramer gets banned from the fruit store. That reminded me about the fruit at my local Krogers (meh). I've been wanting to buy fruit for a long time, but I wont settle for subpar fruit. Where do you Houstonians go for quality fresh fruit thats not damaged or look like a$$?
Well, close to Montrose - midtown. Go to Tafia. There's an organic market there every Saturday morning in the back parking lot. The regular farmer's market is on Airline. You can have breakfast at the triple A, then shop. Search Google - "Farmer's market + houston" and you'll get several local options with maps and reviews - but the traditional one is the airline market, at 2520 Airline. If you're gonna hit the real Farmer's Market at Airline, you gotta hit Aunt Bea's Restaurant @ I-45 & Tidwell first. It's a 24 hour joint that you has a thing called a "Working Man's Breakfast" for like 5 bucks: pancakes, hashbrowns, eggs, biscuits, sausage... It's huge & awesome.
Aside from the farmer's market, generally the two best places for reasonably priced fresh fruit and veggies are HEB and Fiesta. Randall's is okay on a rare sale day, and Costco and Sam's Club are an option if you buy in large quantities and like what they happen to be selling.
