Moms for Liberty (sic) is the largest group pushing for right wing extremist changes in schools. People have been infiltrating their meetings and posting videos from it. To call themselves non-partisan is an absolute joke. These are the people who continuously refer to teachers as groomers. Luckily a group called Defense of Democracy has formed to battle Moms For Liberty. DOD has successfully campaigned on behalf of school board candidates opposing MFL candidates in a ton of places that otherwise would have been victories for the extreme right. Which society, civilization, or nation had ever been saved from banning books. When has history looked back and said, "Thank goodness they banned all those books. That society/nation/civilation was saved and made better because they banned those texts." I don't recall a time when that has ever happened. We can point to times when it was a black mark on a nation/society/civilization.
Yeah - he has very strong authoritarian tendencies and has no issue with extreme government involvement in just about everything when it suits his desires. He isn’t as charismatic as Donald Trump, but he is a lot smarter and while Trump goes with whatever is politically easy - DeSantis is genuine in believing he knows best and the people are his mindless children.
They can propose banning all the books they want. Their kids and probably most of the kids in their district are not going to read them anyway. If it’s not a meme they won’t even try to engage it.
