The 07/08 off season will rank amongst the busiest for the ROX for the following resons:

    1. A NEW GM, Carrol Dawson/ROX GM for 25+ years is retiring, and the new 33year old Morey is in

    2. POSSIBLY A NEW COACH, JVG's contract will be up, and possibly a new coach is in

    3. Expiring contract for role player are up (Mutumbo & Bonzi)

    4. Huge Draft and Major free angency year with big names available

can you think of a bigger off season in ROX history or at least recent history? please let me know if had left anything out.

I think the offseason would have to be complete before we can rank it.

Scratch your #2 out. JVG is gonna get his contract renewed for sure. No JVG-hater can deny what he has done for this team and how good of a coach he is. Just give this man one full year with a healthy T-Mac and Yao and all that talk of how he's not a championship-caliber coach will go away.

As long as he does not have a contract extension, # 2 is out there especially that ROX never waited until off season to extend a contact.

Why would we be talking about where a future offseason could potentially rank when we could be talking about where the 06-07 season which is STILL GOING ON could rank if we play well?

Biggest offseasons happen when you're rebuilding or when you add franchise players. Neither will happen for the Rockets next year.

We already have a solid core. Any moves the Rockets make will be of secondary nature to complement Yao, Tmac and Shane.

The off season is major for each and every team, each with its own challenges and questions.

Even the champ has decisions to make. Think Riles would like to rethink how he staved off roster changes as his fellas slept walked til D-Wade's injury?

    The Rox questions are IMHO:

Will Morey be able to facilitate relationships and manuever thru GM 'traps'?
Will JVG accept a new contrat or prefer to take over the Nets, perhaps, or some other team?
Deke's return is one issue, Bonzi's almost certain leaving is another.

Question: How does Morey's 'metrics' work if a possible rotation player, say Snyder, gets no court time? Corrollarily, how does it work with internationals and college players, ie non-NBAers?

I don't see this being a big off-season at all. How could it compare to getting McGrady, Yao, Francis, Sampson, Dream, etc.?

I'm hoping it'll be similar to last season, where we pick up another good piece for depth, especially at PF or PG. I expect us to keep Deke, and hope Head, Hayes, Snyder, Novak, MeSpan, Hayes, JL3 and Tsalk develop. It would not surprise me, though, to see Head shipped out for someone who fits better.

This summer our assets will be less than last summer, with Sura's contract or injury exception, MLE, low first and second round picks, and some developing guys to trade.

If we got someone like Battier, who is in his prime as a starter, that would be a great off-season, but I have a feeling we'll just get a couple guys for depth.

They already said the decision is up to JVG. Plus we have the option. Even if he wants out real bad, he's here to stay for one more year.

I think that depends on both sides......and how they do in the playoffs.

CD hasn't been GM for 25 years, he was an assistant coach.

I still don't think the organization has the right role players around TMac and Yao. Until that happens, the Rockets are probably not going to the Finals. No doubt, the time is now for the right talent mix. Next season will be another crossroads for the team with not many left to take full advantage of the TMac/Yao era.

confusing thread. First of all, it's just the 2007 offseason.

Regardless, it's a small offseason in comparison to most. CD is leaving, and that's about it. Low draft picks, normal signing/re-signings, no cap space for big FA's, and no movement anticipated with any of our big-time players.

    Very weird thread

If we get Tyler Hansbrough in the draft, this will turn out to be a great offseason. Otherwise, we dont have any money for FAs, Van Gundy isn't going anywhere and Deke will happily sign a 1-year contract.

Can we still trade a player in the offseason? Say Bonzi for a high first round pick? Since this year's draft is so deep, it would be wise to do so. I doubt Bonzi is going to stay around and play for 2.1 million a year again.

I'd prefer not to talk about this until sometime in late June.

IIRC, it's a player option for the 2nd year. He'd have to deny the option and then a sign and trade would have to happen.

hmmm after winning the title i think that the rockets will not make a lot of change .but i guess bonzi could go somewhere else and vince carter will opt out of his contract to come to the rockets and be with t-mac and yao so that they can be the most dominant team that the nba has ever seen for the next 3 years

What are some of the names that will be a free agent in the 2007-2008 season? Is there a list of some sort?
