Where do you guys think Stevie Ranks compared to other points in the league? I personally think he is 3rd or 4th, the only points that I feel are better really is payton and kidd? what do yall think? ------------------ Rockets games are like a box of chocolates, you never know whacha your gonna get.
I would say Payton, Kidd , SFrancis in that order... 3 yrs from now : Steve Francis , Steve F , Steve F. that is how far ahead he will be from the competition ! ------------------ It's all about marketing !
right now... 1.)Glove 2.)Kid 3.)Franchise few years... 1.)Franchise 2.)Kid 3.)? OR 1.)Kid 2.)Franchise 3.)? So pretty much, Francis will be a top 2 point guard in a few years... only thing is that Kid is also fairl young. ------------------ treasurer of the moochie norris fan club
He has the potential to become the best IF he continues to improve. Probly third rite now, tho his numbers mite not show it. ------------------ I have a special purpose.
Comparing him in the traditional point guard qualities (passing, penetration, getting teammates involved, making good decisions, being a floor leader, etc), I'd put Payton, Kidd, Marbury, and Cassell ahead of him. But Francis is the #1 fun-to-watch point guard.
Considering Francis is already mentioned among the top 3 and 4 PGs in the league is a glowing endorsement of how good he is. The PG position is the most difficult to learn and usually takes a couple of yrs before you come into your own. I think as of now, Payton and Kidd are ahead of him, I would personally have Francis instead of Marbury, but I think it will atleast take another season before Francis can leapfrog him. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
As far as being a team player, I am not a big Marbury guy. Fact-the NBA is going to promote francis as much if not more than Ivy/TD/GHill/VC/Shaq/Kobe/Garnett group. Everyone in the NBA front office knows that this kid could be the best and most exciting player in the league. duh! ------------------
1. Kidd 2. Payton 3. Cassell 4 Francis PS, I am not really sold on Payton, as I think he is a terrible teamate. Kidd is the best at being a true PG, and Cassell is right behind in the scoring PG. Francis is rising fast, but he is only a rookie. Let's see if he can sustain it. DaDakota ------------------
I would say the top 5 points are in this order. 1. Payton 2. Kidd 3. Brandon 4. Francis 5. Cassell Payton and Kidd are the obvious first two choices. Terrell Brandon is always overlooked but is a fantastic PG. The reason I say Francis is ahead of Cassell is because Steve has had only one year in the league and WILL be better this year. ------------------ We need some meat in the post!
I wouldn't put Cassel above Steve but I think that he is alittle behind a Marbury. Marbury makes more points and assists, Steve grabs more boards and makes more dunks ------------------ I'm tha hip hop attracta, rapper slash acta, right back at cha!
If Francis took as many shots as Marbury and Cassell, he would have scored a ton more points. I would rank them as follows(assuming we are using being a true point guard as the measuring stick): 1. Kidd 2. Brandon 3. Francis(almost a tie with #2 but still a rookie) 4. Payton 5. Marbury 6. Cassell Payton,Marbury and Cassell are more of the scoring PG type whereas Kidd, Brandon, and Francis are true floor generals with court awareness. ------------------ Houston Rockets Forever!! "If Francis took as many shots as Marbury and Cassell, he would have scored a ton more points." As soon as Stevie quits turning the ball over so much, then he can start scoring more and getting more assists. ------------------
I thought about it in terms of, if my team was playing game 7 of the championship right now, who would I want running the point. Here's my list: Kidd Payton Stockton T. Hardaway Cassell Brandon Francis Van Exel Marbury (he's a punk) ------------------ http://www.gaffordstudios.cjb.net/
I agree with JuanValdez. I would rank it the same thing. ------------------ President of the Moochie Norris FAN CLUB
Tim Hardaway???? Hardaway already played in a game seven just to try and make it to the finals and failed. If youre talking about a healthy Tim Hardaway in his prime, then sure. But I remember hearing the stat that every time HArdaway made it into that series the Knicks took advantage (he was injured and that definitely hindered him, but we are talking about today, not 2 years ago or 2 yrs in the future). Otherwise, I too agree with JuanValdez. If Francis could take a little something from every one of those guys game (Kidds court vision, Stockton's overall smarts, GP intensity, Cassell's experience???-all he really has, Brandon solid overall play-ie no turnovers) than he would definitely be at tthe top of the list in a few years. Things to work on for next year for Steve: 1) FEWER TURNOVERS 2) Becoming true leader/focus of team (Cuttino does a lot of this now, which is fine) 3) Outside shot 4) Getting everyone involved (he did this pretty well towards the second half of the season and we must remember he isnt playing with superstars either--heck if a young Karl Malone was on our team, Stevie wold have 12 assists per game too) 5) Coming through in clutch situations, especially on the road--the reason Kobe is starting to get so much hype is because, like MJ, he wants the ball in his hands at the end of games and KNOWS what to do with it. Thats about it, I am sure there are many more things for him to work on but I think everyone can agree that number 1 should be decrease turnovers. ------------------ When I die I want to go peacefully like my grandfather. I gotta agree about adding Stockton above Francis, even though his name is like a curse word on this board. 1. Payton 2. Kidd 3. Stockton 4. Francis But I hate pinch-faced Stockton and would never want him on my team. Forgot to mention, that I think Steve will climb rapidly into the #1 spot. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Rollinrockets (edited June 09, 2000).]
"As soon as Stevie quits turning the ball over so much, then he can start scoring more and getting more assists." 4chuckie, If we had guys who could catch the ball and finish besides Shandon and Cat he would have a ton more assists as well. ------------------ Houston Rockets Forever!!
