Right off the top I can think of 30 PG's better than Ward, Lue or Sura. You can argue this point, but you certainly can't argue that no matter who we start we will have one of the worst starting point guards in the league. 1. Kidd,jason 2. Bibby,mike 3. Nash,steve 4. Francis,steve 5. Marbury,stephon 6. Cassell,sam 7. Davis,baron 8. Parker,tony 9. Wade,dwayne 10.Jackson,bobby 11 Williams,jason 12.Miller,andre 13.Billups,chauncey 14.Terry,jason 15.Payton,gary 16.Arenas,gilbert 17.Vanexel,nick 18.Stoudamire,damon 19.Hudson,troy 20.Tinsley,jamaal 21.Barry,Brent 22.Arroyo,carlos 23.Hinrich,kirk 24.Snow,eric 25.Daniels,antonio 26.James,Mike 27.Williams,frank 28.murray,ronald 29.Alston,rafer 30.Armstrong.Darryl
Not every team can have the best player, or even one in the top 50% at every position. Even title winning teams are rarely above average at EVERY position. It's just a fact of life in the NBA - deal with it.
I remember the Lakers had some pretty sucky players at some positions when they won rings recently. Maybe it all balances out when you consider we have one of the best centers in the league and one of the top 5 or so players in the league regardless of position. The sum of the parts and all that...
You left out T.J. Ford who the bucks managment has been very vocal that he is their man, and averaged over six assist in his rookie season. Plus he is already working back from his energy and probably the the quickest player in the league with the exception of Iverson. Porter was said numerous times that he will be one of the best true point guards we have seen in a long time.
are = verb our = adjective you can't rank are but you can rank OUR Point Guards that is what he was talking about
Sorry, your post seemed uneccessarily mean. I should have left out the sarcasm, but couldn't resist. No hard feelings I hope
Funny that... one of the worst PGs in the league... the 2nd best C and the 2nd best SG. Average to slightly above average PF and SF. Not so bad. But, ya know... why don't we look on the negative side?
Good job, now rank how many centers are ahead of Yao and how many shooting guards are ahead of McGrady. The Lakers won three straight championships, were any of thier points in the top 25 or 30?
[sarcasm] Dude, don't you know we must have a legit star at every position? I mean, if you can't have a top 15 player at each position you have no chance in the NBA. Some way we've got to get Garnett at PF, possibly MoT & TE? Now, how do we get Kidd at the point and then Rashard Lewis for small forward? Man, until those deals happen, I don't think the Rox make it to the playoffs.[\sarcasm]
IMO, Raul Lopez, Leandro Barbosa, Jeff McInnis, Chucky Atkins, Luke Ridnour, Marquis Daniels, Marko Jaric, Alvin Williams, and Derek Fisher are better PG's than what we have as well.
I agree that you don't need a star at every position especially when you have 2 great players on your team. I especially no this from watching past Rocket championships. All I was stating IMO we really are scraping the bottom with Ward. He is a backup point at best. I beleive until we upgrade the point we won't be winning any championships. I hope I am wrong.
We won two championships with one of the worst starting PG in the NBA in Kenny Smith. Against the likes of Stockton, Kevin Johnson, Avery Johnson, and Penny Hardaway. Our PF combo of Will Smith and Chucky Brown also managed quite fine against Karl Malone, Charles Barkley, Dennis Rodman, and Horis Grant in our second championship year. Sure, I admit that Lue/Sura/Ward is a pretty crappy PG rotation, but that means nothing.
Is Flip Murray a PG? Well, I don't think that Ward and Sura are not that bad PGs. Also, SF is ranked on 4th place but do you want to change our PGs with SF? There are PGs who can be fit to team like Rox. So, no matter where they are ranked I think that they can fit on our team very well.
Come'on you can't compare Kenny to Ward. While Kenny was no all star he certainly was better than Ward and arguably the second most important player on our 1st championship team. He new how to get the ball to Hakeem and he killed other teams with his deadly 3's when they double and tripled teamed Hakeem. Also Cassell coming off the bench was not a bad second option as well. IMO Center and PG are the 2 most important positions on the team. And while you don't have to have an all star at both positions I still think you need a better than average one to win a championship. Maybe Ward will be better than I think. But while everyone was cheering for the trade, I was a little disappointed. I had hoped for Barry or at least Mike James. And now I here Ward will start and I am hoping Sura is better and he is the Starter. This is just my opinion so don't take it personally.... I hope Ward proves me wrong and we win adozen dozen championships with him.
I would say once you get to around #20 and below, none of those point guards other than Hinrich and Murray (whose not a pg) are significantly better than our trio. I mean, Frank Williams shoots 36% from the field. He's no better than Reece Gaines. James, Armstrong, Daniels, Alston, Arroyo, Armstrong? These guys are no more than 10ppg players, which is what we have in Lue and Sura.
