Now I love Yao as much as the next Rocket's fan as the big guy has endured himself to the Rockets with a humbleness, classiness, and work ethic that us fans have not seen from a superstar since the days of Hakeem and Clyde. When you put the big guy next to the likes of T-Mac and Francis, it makes it that much more easy to be appreciative of our gentle golden giant. The guy works hard, averages 20/10, and is never a distraction on or off the court.

However, this leads us to a glaring problem. In the last few seasons, Yao's season has ended prematurely from leg problems of various sorts due to his freakish body size and the latest, yet another fracture, causes us great concern. As lovable as he is, I am above all, a Rockets fan and I want to see the Rockets do what is best for the team rather than see what is best for a player. No matter how good Yao is, missing substantial time each season, is NOT good for the Rockets.

My question to all of you is that if Yao goes down again prematurely in 2009, where do we go in 2010 when his contract is up. Do we still resign him even though he wants a max contract? Should we move on to a less productive but much more consistent player? Look forward to hearing everyone's thoughts!

dude, go find an interesting topic to make a thread, or do something else enjoyable. This is totally no fun with this kind of bloody thread. I would suggest it be closed, immediately.

Again... don't read them then chump... No one is forcing you to click on the links! No one is claiming this to be fun and it is interesting to some people, more importantly fans with foresight that actually considers something beyond their immediate present. Case and point, Yao is injury prone in a very bad way and as a Rockets fan, I want to consider what will be the best course of action for Rockets as a TEAM.

WE should resign Yao Ming! However the amount should only befitting his new role on the team and befitting the new economy!

His new role should have him playing about 26 mins. a game. he should no longer be the stuck in concrete back to the basket player but should often move away from the paint and bring back his outside shot. By mixing it up the wrestlers who guard him under the basket won't be continually stressing his frame.

Yao should also reduce his weight to about 290lbs, again to reduce stress on his frame. Yao should rest more during the off seasons.

This of course would also force Morey into getting us a substantial back up.
At least 7', athletic with good defence.
NO OLD players on their last lap of their basketball career! Only exceptipon being Shaq of course. :p

PS This theme of thinking should also be applied to Ron Artest and Tracy McGrady, should we need to resign them. :p

Look if you guys don't like the topic of the thread (it is pretty clear cut as a title) and have nothing to do except try to flame, the GTFO. I highly doubt GARM wants you trolls here, so just stay the hell away!

For real Rockets fans that care about the team and its future, please respond!

Finally, an INTELLIGENT and MEANINGFUL post! I will be more than happy if the Rockets sign him at the right price as no one can deny his heart or skills, just his fortitude. I am assuming that we will be letting go of T-Mac after his injury publicity stunt and we will be resigning the Rockets as we got nothing else going for us really in the 2009 FA. As bad as Ron's shot selection is, we need all the firepower we can get! :D

if you want to make a yao thread everyday, at least make it somewhat interesting and be polite and patient to those who took the time to take a look at it.

didn't you mean if yao goes down big time next season, what should we do AFTERWARDS in 2010-2011 season? the title of your thread reads "where do we go in 2010 if yao goes down again in 2009". well yao is already out for this season. so if he goes down again in nov/dec of 2009, we probably can do nothing but wait until his contract expires in 2011 'cause he won't opt it if it's a major injury; and i doubt many teams would want his contract though expiring.

like what i've said, if yao has yet another major injury (knock on wood), all bets are off. it means the end of the yao era and we are screwed. rebuilding is more of a painstaking process than an exciting one. just look at the bulls, mj has left for over 10 years and they haven't gone anywhere.

People who know anything about Rockets will know what I mean and there is no point in being polite to trolls. They knew exactly what the thread is about and still came in to flame. As far as interesting, I would imagine this would be a very interesting thread to real Rockets fans, the ones that actually care about the team's future since to most of the players, this is all business.

If Yao goes down with freak injury then he's done, Rockets need to trade him but knowing Les Yao is untouchable so I bet Rocket will do everything to contain Yao.

That is unless Yao wants to opt out, chances are low though. The most likely scenario will be Yao sign for a lower contract.

If this is directed at me, I have no idea what you are talking about. My thread and post is both valid and reasonable. As far as my rudeness and distaste for idiot Yao bandwagon fans and trolls who come in to flame meaninglessly, they deserve it. There is a nice place in Hell for people like that...

It won't matter. The Rockets will keep bringing him back. What they should do is find a replacement for Yao (I know, I know), and have him waiting in the wings (bench) for when the inevitable happens. How Morey pulls this off, I have no idea, but that's why he makes the big bucks.

Rockets with Yao on bench can win as much as Rockets with Yao on court.

    The direction is set.
