Realistically, this was probably their last year at a title. Though they might be able to next year, I don't see it happening. Sheed is retiring and KG might retire if Doc retires. Thibs is also leaving to. So if you were Celtics management, what would you do??

Trade Rondo, get something while you can.

Don't let him get exposed next year by himself...

They'll probably gut the team and rebuild around Rondo...

They have some options. i think they're done but...

If they decide to make another run:

The Celtics have their MLE and they have the 19th pick which is high for them, plus they have the 52nd pick. Danny Ainge is good at the draft. But the Celtics still have an old roster and i question whether good players are willing to sign there for cheap to make a ring run...

    Back Home.

No, but if I was a Celtic bigwig or whatever, I would NOT consider signing Ray Allen.

They ARE stuck in no man's land though; I don't believe they can win it all with their current roster, but they shouldn't blow up the team either, because the core is so solid.

However, I DO think they are way too old. Finley, Ray Allen, and Shelden Williams (not old, just sucks) need to go. Seriously. Finley and Williams were nigh useless in the series, and Allen proved that he is a terrible player in clutch time.

I would rather get a younger wing, in the mold of Iguodala; not so much a jump shooter, but can work well slashing to the basket.

Rondo / Robinson (GREAT; reverse AB / Lowry relationship)
    Tony Allen / FA SG
    Pierce / FA SF
    Garnett / Davis
    Perkins / FA C

They need to get players in trades, etc.

KG retiring? he's got 2 years and 40 mil left.

They've got to figure out the coaching situation, either get Rivers back or maybe Ainge moves down to coach. It's going to be tough finding a coach the team respects unless it's one of those two guys.

As far as players go, they have to try and sign Allen back to a lesser contract. Obviously the championship window is not closed for the Celtics, they have to go all in again next year and use the MLE on someone to back up Pierce/Allen.

    Build around Shelden Williams. ;)

Lakers got lucky with the injury of Perkins.

But seriously I won't be surprised if they let Pierce go. He didn't play well this off-season.

    Build around Rondo....

Celtics should try to go after Joe Johnson to replace Ray Allen, but he won't sign over there. Make Pierce into the Ray Allen spot shooter role.

That'll be all she wrote for Rasheed and Mike Finley. Garnett can still play, just not like the old "KG".

Celtics already gutted it into the Finals from a lower seed. If they dont get 2 younger impact players they're definitely not competing for a championship next year. The whole league wants those younger players also, so Boston has to pull a rabbit out of their old hat. They'll probably be like the 90's Celtics at the end of Bird and McHale's careers, a decent team but not Finals bound.

Horrible ending for them. Looks like it will be all over.

    1) Tell Rondo to spend the entire summer shooting the ball. Improve off the dribble shot, and long range shot.

    2) DO NOT resing ray Allen

    3) Leave Pierce and maybe Garnett (if you don't find a good deal)

    4) Make sure Doc stays and find a good asistant coach

Pierce killed the Magic and is their closer and leader. Lifetime Celtics as well. No way they let him go.

Pierce didn't play against the two best Defensive SFs in the game and that's not surprising at all.

    Rondo/Nate
    Allen/?
    Pierce/?
    Garnett/Davis
    Perkins/?

I think they can still retool, but they need to get an awesome backline Center and guard to do it. They need to lower EVERYONES minutes...

Trade/dump players while you still can. Pierce is the only one that should be safe. Ray shouldn't be on the team next year, and they should seriously consider trying to move Garnett. Wave goodbye to Sheed and thank him for a solid playoff/finals performance. Get rid of all the trash at the end of the roster too.

It's too bad the Celtics aren't really seen as a player for a SnT in the free agent market. I have no idea what their cap situation looks like though.
