My passport is set to expire soon so I need to get it renewed (not that I'm going anywhere).

Where do I go in Houston to get a new one?

    How much does it cost?

Do I have to bring the passport photos or do they make them there?

How long before I get it?

    Thanks.

Go to the Customs building downtown, I'm not sure exactly what street it's on. You do need to bring your own picture from what I remember.

I thought it was the Mickey Leland Federal Building?

That's where I went to get mine about 10 years ago... I hope you don't need this right away... although for a fee I believe they can expedite it. I believe it takes at least two weeks. Be sure to have already taken your passport photos and be ready to stand in line.

They may even have forms online... good luck.

    Where are you going???

there's a few post offices around town with passport offices in them. i went to one at BW8 near 290.
but they charge a $30 fee
adults are $65 +$60 if you want it expedited (2 weeks vs 6 weeks)

    children are $40

get your pics at walgreens. it's about half what you would pay there

if it's just a renewal i think you can do it by mail. you have to send your old one in with new pics of you.

Is there a specific way to take the pics? Couldn't I just take them myself and save a lot of money?

Who are you? Jason Bourne? Do you really need a passport if you aren't going anywhere?

no, they have to be printed on special paper so that the passport laminate will work.

You gotta be kidding me. "Special paper"? I've never seen "passport photo paper" at Office Depot. Is it the same paper they use to make money? :)

    haha... Office Depot.

I believe the photo paper has to be able to hold up to the heat of the laminate and no, it's not 'money paper'....

No way, those prices are way outrageous. Go to your local Walgreens. It's $7.99 for 2 pictures. Takes 10 minutes. They also do I.N.S. photos as well.

Go to the Mickey Leland Federal Building downtown. It is actually one of only 5 or 6 locations in the US where the physical making of the passports takes place (ie the other branch locations have theirs made here in Houston). If you catch them on the right day when they're making them, you could potentially get it done in 1 day. In fact, I got my passport in 4 hours back about 6 years ago when I first had it done.

The pictures can be done wherever- Kinkos, walgreens, etc.
