Anyone know where to get a Boston Terrier puppy around Houston?

I'm trying to find a legit breeder, but I'd buy from a pet shop as a last resort

Don't go to a pet store. the poor dog will most likely be from a puppy mill and have all kinds of problems.

Look at rescue groups for that breed or breeder clubs

We had Bostons growing up. My parents still have one, she's going on 14 now!

A friend of mine got a Boston puppy about a year ago from a breeder. She's a great dog and in good health so I think it would be good to check out. I'll get the contact info and post it here.

Much appreciated, I'll be checking in. I'm trying to avoid buying from a pet shop. That site from lost elephant also looks like a good source

Agree about the pet shops but look out for breeders too. A LOT of them are puppy millers. I wouldn't buy a dog from anyone who didn't let me see their yard, their dogs and especially the parents of the puppy I was buying.

The wife and I live in Pflugerville and we drove up to Denison of all places, 2 years ago to get our Boston.

We got to see the house, the yard, got to play with all the pups, didn't get to play with the parents though, they were a little pissed and protective of their babes.

Boston's are great dogs. The owners breed both Black and Red Bostons. If you want the breeder's info, I can get it for you.

Read this first - http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/bostonterrier.htm - and make sure this is the right kind of dog for you. Too many people just pick a dog based on how it looks and don't consider whether their lifestyle is a match for the dog's temperament (and vice-versa)

Go with the rescue group and keep an open mind to mixed breeds (Boston Terrier + something else). Unless you're looking to have a show dog, there's no reason to insist on a purebred. Mixed dogs tend to be smarter and have fewer health problems (due to in-breeding).

buy from a pet shop! Save that poor animal from living in that box for the rest of its life! Atleast animals at a rescue have already been loved atleast once.

I've done a good chunk of research. Here's my list:

    -Minimal shedding: check
    -Small dog: check
-Minimal exercise requirement: check (I hate going outdoors, I can just let him/her run around in the backyard)
    -Indoor dog: check

My only concern was the health issue. But I am very picky when it comes to a pet's health. My fiancee is even pickier. This breed seems like the perfect indoor dog that matches my lifestyle.

Beware the flatulence, sometimes they will clear a room.

    Boxers are notorious as well.

It's because of that short muzzle, they inhale a lot of air when eating. Supposedly many of them have sensitive stomachs as well so getting some food with fish as the main ingredient may be necessary.
