I "acquired" photoshop 7. Now how the hell do I use it? Anyone know any good websites that are thourough in photoshop tutorials? How did you guys get so good at it?
You really need to find a university that offers a 4 year PS degree plan ~ learning it on your own is impossible (unless you find a badass mentor). At any rate look to spend 4-5 years to get the basics.
I you "aquired" it then you should be able to "aquire" some in depth pdf and/or video tutorials. The video tutorials are very helpful because you can follow along step by step. The best way to learn is to do. Let me tell you that the most important thing to uderstand is the layering system. Once you get that down, everything will fall into place. I actually have some pdf tutorials. I'll post a yousendit link for you.
Well, I lied. I don't have them afterall. If you use Bittorrent, You can do a search for Photoshop tutorials. I learned the basics in less than a year.
Just google some basic 'how to' tutorials ~ once you start understanding some of the easy stuff you'll soon be photoshopping your fantasy football rivals heads on all sorts of embarrassing things...
I learned it on my own, it's not impossible. It takes alot of experimenting with it and just sitting down and playing with it. Everytime I saw something and asked my self "how'd they do that?" I would find out or played with each tool until I got the effect I wanted. There are TONS onf tutorials online if you just look for them.
Get some books, look for online tutorials, use it everyday... learning PS takes time as does mastering any program. Time and patience young grasshopper.
I taught myself as well. I'm no pro or anything, but I use it for my hobby--photography, and I use it for work.......scanning in maps and marking them up. Not the best tool for that, but it works for what we need right now. I'm about to try and teach myself Arcview GIS. I'm thinking it will make Photoshop looks like a piece of cake. Just get in there and play around.....and use the help files that come with it.
Yeah, sooo confusing the first 4 or 5 times I used it, but I got the hang of it within a couple of weeks. Easiest way is to get a friend not necessarily show you how, but watch him/her make/edit something, and if you don't understand what happened, ask questions. The great thing is that every time I use it, I find more and more new and different tools and effects I never knew that has made things easier. I'd say I only know about 75% of its full use, of course that's probably better than most.
Thanks guys. It's good to know that it's not something newbie friendly...I was starting to get frustrated.
Photoshop is one of the best, most sophisticated and most complex pieces of graphics software on the market. It is a great piece of software, but it is incredibly complex and takes time to understand. I know enough just to be dangerous, but I am by no means a master, and I've been using it for probably 5 years. I'm starting to re-lean some elements now as well to get better at making photos look great, but it's a big learning curve.
