I have placed an order with Microsoft for Win98SE update (updates from Win98 to SE), but they are back ordered until next year! How long can it take to burn a CD? My boss bought 2 firewire hard drives for me to back up data, but I can't use them with my laptop, because even though I have firewire ports and can see them, they won't work without Win98SE. Where can I find Win98SE update? I need it before Thursday.
directron.com in houston sells an OEM version of 98SE for $94.00. you might wanna try Half Price Books too
You can get the full OEM version from www.directdeals.com for $88. Just make sure you buy something like a $10 mouse or keyboard to make the purchase legal. That's if you'd rather have the full version than the upgrade.
You obviously don't understand how Microsoft suggests you buy their newer operating systems. By the way, Microsoft stops supporting Windows 98 SE on June 30, 2002.
June 30, 02?? When did they stop supporting Win 3.1??? here's a link to cheap software: http://www.9software.com rH
This sucks. I want to get the "update" because it's $20 from Microsoft. However, it's "back-ordered" until next year. All I want is FireWire to work! My laptop came with onboard firewire, I guess I shouldn't be all that shocked to find out that it's ornamental. I used to have Linux on my machine, until I bought Word 2000 and it wiped out my Linux partition when I installed it. God, I hate Microsoft.
Perhaps I could swing you a copy of it in advance, but you'll still be ordering it? It's likely illegal, but I'd argue it's ethical -- as long as you have already paid for the software.
Thanks for the offer. Unfortunately I don't have time to fool with this anymore, so I borrowed an ibook. At least its FireWire ports work as advertised!
