The wife and I will be returning to the great state of Maine for two weeks in August. This will be our third year. We rent a beautiful lake house on Moosehead lake (the largest lake in the Northeast). AAHHH… Last year we were there for 8 days and only saw 4 people the whole time . Did a lot of mountain biking, naked lake swimming, fishing (not to forget the beer drinking). If you've never been to Maine, it is truly spectacular. What is everyone else doing for vacation? ------------------
DUKE always goes to THIS place!!! http://www.westfest.com/ Me and my polka buddies jam out on some classics, you know IT IS ALL about the music. MAN we rock out HARD CORE like Motley Crew or Depesh MODE!!! My favorite POLKAS to jam on are theses! "Squeeze My Keelbasa" "Pork Queen of Des Moines" "Forbiddun Polka" AND many others!!!! ------------------ Robble robble robble HAMBURGLER in the HOUSE!!
Unfortunately, my wife and I haven't been on vacation in 2 years thanks to the rigors of owning a business. This year is our 5th anniversary, however, in October, so we'll have to do something. Maine sounds pretty. ------------------ "No one gets out ALIVE!" SaveOurRockets.com
Pole, You rock! Congrats on the upcoming wedding! It sounds wonderful. Yes, our vacation also coincides with our wedding anniversary (July 26th will be three years!). Moosehead is about 40 miles from Quebec! My wife actually suggested this last year to me, but I was too busy baiting a hook. Guess I'll have to acquiesce this year. ------------------
You'll have a wonderful time in Quebec, but I was wrong on the date for that festival--for some reason, I remembered it being right before the start of the fall semester back when I was in school, but actually, it was right at the end of the spring semester--at the beginning of summer instead of at the end. Oh well, the city is still a nice place to visit. ------------------ stop posting my damn signature
Pole, Tahoe is fantastic. I've never been in the spring or summer but I'm guessing that it will be beautiful. Have fun. As for me and the Mrs.SpaceCity, well we're going on a cruise. We'll be stopping at VeraCuz, Mexico as well as Cozumel and Playa del Carmen. This is our first cruise, so I am looking forward to it. Lots of dive opportunities! After having my last dive trip ruined by hurricane Mitch (Cayman Islands last year), I am excited to once again have the opportunity to become one with the beautiful Carribean Ocean. ------------------ RocketFuel is taking the summer off!
I'll be in New York for a week surrounding Memorial Day weekend, and I'll be in San Francisco for 2-3 days at the end of June (that will be business mixed with vacation). ------------------ Bring It!!
Pole, Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. ---------------------------- SpaceCity, I'm knocking on wood for you, since you have some sick desire to jinx yourself. ---------------------------- My vacation will be my trip to the Guadalupe River on Memorial Day weekend. It'll be more like a nightmare, but some friends asked my wife and I to go, so I guess we have to. If any CC.NETers will be there give me a holler. Not like we'll be able to find each other in the mass of tubes, beer, & rednecks.
DREAMer, Thanks for the congrats. If you put in at Jerry's or RockinR's, have them take you up the river such that you float down back towards their camp (as opposed to floating down and having them bring you back up). You'll miss lots of that stuff you don't want to see. I have to admit, the river is "white-trashy," but I still enjoy it. Make sure you have a meal at the Huisache grill in New Braunfels, and try and take in an evening in Austin, and you'll be able to find a good time. ------------------ stop posting my damn signature
DAMN Pole no one has to tell the DUKE he rocks! THE DUKE knows that! I am glad you are polish. Polish music is a WAY OF LIFE keepin it real tellin bout DUKE's homiez in Warsaw and also Milwakee. DAMN strate. DUKE DUKE DUKE DUKE of POLKA! Also DUKE has some good advise. for you. WATCH YOUR BACK. You getting married. DUKE has BEEN married, it did not work so good. Watch out for the mailman.
Pole, Congrats on your upcoming wedding. I remember you emailed me about making a trip to Banff a few months ago, and I'm still sorry for not being able to help you. But its good to hear that you'll still be travelling there as well as a good portion of the West Coast and Rocky Mountains. Those are some beautiful places. As for Chateau Lake Louise, its a great resort in a remarkable setting. If you happen to be in Western Alberta during the 2nd or 3rd week of July, you should definately make the hour's drive to Calgary and check out the legendary Calgary Stampede. Its worth it. mc mark, as Pole said, going to Quebec City is like walking through Europe. Its the perfect place to take your wife. You should be fine even if you can't speak French. If you can't make the festival Pole was talking about, there are several frequent festivals and activities going on all year. As for myself, I plan on heading to Southern California for a wedding in August, and possibly may find time between work and summer classes to travel to Texas. Pole, Oh, I've been down the river many many a time. One summer I went three times, and it just about killed any desire to ever go again. I think I've only been twice since then. Thanks for the tips though.
I'm going to the dark side of the moon until basketball season starts again. If not there, then I'll be going to the CC.net to get away from it all. ------------------ I need a new signature. 302
MC Mark--Maine is beautiful. If you have a spare day or two, you should drive up into Quebec City and take your wife out to eat dinner at one of the restaurants in the Chateau Frontenac, then walk around on the boardwalk--very romantic, and the next best thing to actually being in Europe. I'm not sure of the exact date, but sometime in August, the Canadians celebrate the festival for St. John the Baptist. If you can be in Quebec city on that day, you'll enjoy an even more wonderful time, there will be artists and performers all over the boardwalk, and it's just a damn good time. Lhutz--You rule! I've yet to make it to westfest, but we keep planning to go. Being a Pol(e), I kinda like those oom pah bands. My fiance is Czech, and so is my best friend's wife--the two girls are old friends (that's how my woman and I met), and they have relatives in West--and they've been to the festival quite a few times. You won't see me there this year, but I really think you will the next. Have a good time, and drink some Pilsner Urquell for me. NOW--about my vacation. I'm gonna come off pretty boastful here, so I hope you guys don't mind--I'm pretty stoked about this whole deal. When I proposed to my fiance this past Christmas, I suggested that we get married twice. Once for ourselves (and no one else but God), and another time for our family, friends, and the church. We're both Catholic, but we both take exception to some of the Church's doctrines. I don't want to turn this into a religious debate, so let's just leave it at that. Anyway, over the July 4th weekend, we are going to Lake Tahoe for five days. While there, we're going to go up on a mountain with our own individual notes on what we think will make a strong, happy, lasting, and loving marriage, and we're going to combine our ideas into one doctrine, word them in such a way as to become our wedding vows, and then exchange them along with our rings right there up on the mountain by ourselves. On September 2nd, we'll be married in the Church for our family and friends (and ourselves) to enjoy. After the reception, we will fly to Seattle, where I plan to wake up the next morning, take a cab to Millienum Ford (an Internet Ford dealership), and take delivery of an obnoxious Ford F350 diesal 4X4. (I've always wanted one, and though I probably will get tired of it after just a few years, I need to get it out of my system. I don't need the thing, but it's a HUGE tax deduction). Anyway, we're gonna drive it to Vancouver where we're gonna spend three nights in the penthouse jacuzzi suite 701 at www.royaltowers.com. From there, we'll drive to Salmon Run for a night at a bed and breakfast, and then drive to Banff for two nights at the Chateau at Lake Louise (www.cphotels.com/cp.asp?loc=l_louise. From there, we'll drive to the www.bayshoreinn.com for one night in Waterton Lakes park just north of Glacier National Park. From there, I can't remember all of our different stops; I just know that we'll spend the next week meandering through Glacier, Yellowstone, and Grand Teton National Parks before hightailing it back to Texas. ------------------ stop posting my damn signature
I'm hoping to go to Israel somewhere in the late summer. I'm also hoping to move to Houston around the same time, so pulling off a big vacation like that is going to be difficult. The clincher will be if I can convince a friend to give me free housing while I'm there (it's the only way to travel!). ------------------ Looking for work in Houston.
