The purpose of this is not to start an arguments. I'd like to avoid one, actually. Rather, I'm interested in asking an abstract question, to try to better understand everyone. And also see if they're consistent . For the record, choice F best approximates my position. A - The US should act solely according to its national interest and the current administration is doing this well. B- The US should act primarily ethically and the current administration is doing this well C. The US should act primarily according to the national interest, but with certain ethical limitations D. A, but the current admistration is doing this poorly. E. B, but the current administratio nis doing this poorly. F. C, but the current administration is doing this poorly. G. My country right or wrong.
Don't these things always start that way? Oh, and your opinion sucks. I'd like to avoid one, actually. Rather, I'm interested in asking an abstract question, to try to better understand everyone. And also see if they're consistent . Was this supposed to be a poll? I don't see any voting thingies...
I'll vote C, but I'm somewhere in between C and F. I don't think they're doing a perfect job, but I wouldn't say they were doing poorly either.
Is the question for foreign policy in general, or wartime? I think in a time of war, like this, when the country is in danger every day of being attacked, I'm a "G". Above all, I want to be free, and I want to live, and I want my wife and son to live. Just ensure that happens, and I won't ask too many questions. Another reason I would be a "G" in this case is that I don't think too many people are privy to the kind of information that the government is in this situation (for good reason), to even be able to answer the question. If it's just foreign policy in general, I vote "C".
H The US should act according to the national interest, but with certain ethical limitations. The US should also defend freedom and prevent oppression within certain ethical and feasible limitations. I'm not suggesting the US impose its will on anyone, but to prevent someone from opposing their will on someone else if feasible. A Good neighbor policy. We may play music till 3 in the morning. We may not cut our grass every week. We stick our noses where they don't belong sometimes. If someone is breaking into your house, we won't just go back to the couch and watch TV.
Bah. If everyone got to elucidate their foreign policy, we'd run out of letters . A problem with that, is that people in power look at the same things, and come to different conclusions. I can understand the position that an individual citizen can't know enough about the situation to make an educated decision... but having the facts doesn't guarantee a good one, either.
lol! I would be a "C" I guess. Although now that I think about it I'm editing and saying its possible I could be an "A." Depends on how you define national interests.
