Where are the minutes for Mo Pete or another 3?

It seems like the BBS consensus position for the Rockets to draft for is the small forward position, but I don’t see how the lotto pick would get the minutes to make an impact without wasting some of our other assets. Mobley and Anderson are both going to command at least 30 minutes a game. If Mobley keeps improving, he should be out there 35-40 minutes. That gives Anderson only about 15 minutes a game at the shooting guard position. He didn’t come here to play 15 MPG, so he’s gonna get at least 15 minutes at the small forward position. We’ve still got Walt, who is playing REAL well lately, key word “lately”. Not to mention Rogers and Thomas who can also play the three. Now at the power forward position, we are WEAK. I know a lot of people are convinced that Thomas is our power forward of the future, but 41 FG% is flat out pathetic for a power forward, esp. one who isn’t a focal point of the offense. Also, the box scores I’ve been seeing almost always show opposing power forwards getting significantly more points and rebounds than their averages for the season. I say we need to use this pick in some way to get a good power forward and let Kenny play backup and maybe COMPETE for the starters position in the future instead of having handed to him, because we have no one else. I just don’t see how we have enough minutes to give a lotto pick small forward, and a guy needs minutes to have an impact, which I would definitely want from a lotto pick this high.

Not that I don’t think we could use a small forward, I don’t think we need a star at all however. Really, I think we could use a role player like a Shandon Anderson – just a bigger one who can guard the bigger small forwards, hit the open shots, and not slow down the running game. If we get the Orlando pick, which I am beginning to think we might, then maybe we could grab one of the second tier small forwards like a Pete McKeal (that may be too high of a slot for him, but he seems to fit the bill for what I think we could use) or if we’re lucky, Mike Miller (I don’t know about his D, but somebody mentioned once that he’d fit our team well, because he could play a point forward role and let Francis play like shooting guard sometimes).
