I didn't watch the game, but in looking at the box, no blocked shots. Sixers had 5 blocks, which is still not great, but better than 0! Why aren't we getting more blocks out of Asik, Patterson, etc.?

we're one of the worst shot blocking teams. asik avg the most at 1.1bpg. we're gonna have games with zero blocks. would be nice to get a pf who can block shots in the offseason

Blocked shots are not an indicator of good defence. It does not matter, it is just an added benefit. Honestly, they should have a stat for shots altered: that is the real defensive indicator for a center.

I think this relates to the fact that the Rockets don't foul very often and are one of the better defensive rebounding teams. If you try to go for more block shots, you could reduce the other team's FG% around the basket but also hurt yourself into terms of putting them on the line and being in good rebounding position.

Also, HoopData.com says we were 27th last year in FG% given up at the rim, and this year we're 17th. So, it appears there has been some improvement with Asik even though he's not block a lot of shots.
