When I was at NBA City in Orlando I saw Yao Ming jerseys for sale. I would've bought one but the $150 was a bit steep for me. I hadnt been paid yet.
I think it's pretty lame they haven't come out yet. My birthday is approaching hopefully they're out in Houston by then.
Perhaps I am wrong, but I suspect they can't sell Yao Ming licensed NBA merchandise until he signs an NBA contract.
I thought that too but how can the Rockets plaster his face all over billboards and website as well? Would people hoping to see Yao play get a refund on season tickets if Yao was not signed for whatever reason??? os
bobrek is correct ... the league can't sell Yao merchandise until Yao signs a contract. Without going into a long explanation, advertising and merchandising are two different things; the same rules don't always apply. Tim
It was the official jersey with the pinstripes. It also had his whole name on the back of the jersey. Plus I'm sure things cost a little bit more at NBA City.
Was it authentic? I bet it was considering the $150 price tag, thats how much a current rockets authentic jersey costs on NBA.com.
Would it be possible if we conduct a mass order for the authentic jerseys? Maybe someone frm here knows a distributer who could offer us some form of discount since we're buying in bulk?
Well, actually, I've heard jersies can be had cheaper at NBA City than elsewhere in Orlando (most of the malls and shops are well outside the tourist district, btw). The authentic ones are $150-$160 ordered online as well....$150 really isn't out of the realm of possibility at NBA City in Orlando. Of course, I imagine there will be much cheaper replica jersies later on down the road (i.e. $40-$60 range).
I was wondering the same thing about advertising for season tickets, using Yao's likeness. Actually, I can see the Rockets putting his half-mug up on a billboard; but I wonder if Asians and Asian-Americans in the city bought those season tickets already (ring ring"thank you for calling the Houston Rockets, how may I help you?" "how much for 500 season tickets?") or if they're waiting until Yao actually signs before handing over the dough-re-mi. Probably a mix: take the (slight) risk of him not signing and buy right away; take the (slight) risk of no season tickets being available (I don't think the Rox have run into this problem for awhile) by the time he does sign.
