When you travel for business with a co-worker, do you normally share a hotel room?

I have never traveled with a co-worker before on business. What is the proper etiquette? Both parties are male. Seems to me that separate rooms would be called for, right?

I realize this topic has the potential for jokes, but I would appreciate some serious input tossed in as well.

No we all get our own rooms. Was this planned in advanced or are there just no rooms left?

The recruiter that i normally would travel with is female. So yes diff rooms. She puts her room on her Corporate Amex, and my room goes on mine.

Planned in advance. Rooms should be available. Just wondering what's normal.

hell no I would never share a room on business

I many times get the best room in the entire hotel, often with multiple bedrooms, and I wouldn't even share that

I've never shared a room and I have never been asked to share a room either. I would think it would be pretty weird to share a room with a co-worker.

It's not so weird after you down a box of Franzia. After that, it all feels oh so right.

I think the question is do YOU want to share a room with your coworker? It sure sounds like it. :p

At my company we share rooms for all offsites, and I thought it was the weirdest thing when I started working here last year. When I first started I had to go to Seattle for 2 weeks of training, and I shared a room with a guy from Germany. I was really nervous about it initially, but it turned out fine.

Come on, we had a great time! I let you try on my Lederhosen!

As to fadeaway's question, if they want to make you share rooms, it better be a startup that turns out to be the next Facebook, otherwise I would recommend to change jobs... :)

Starwood Platinum? Intercontinental Royal Ambassador? Hyatt Diamond?

Because Hilton Diamond sure doesn't do that...

I'd say no, don't share a room. Unless of course your coworker is like a bro to you, but even then, this isnt college where you share a room to save money and have bro stories of when that one time you brought that one chick back and you guys saw France that night (Eiffel tower). :)

Seriously though, NO on sharing room for business.

    Separate rooms, always.

The only exception I've encountered is when a small company is gathering all employees together for an annual retreat. To save money, since everyone is going, we will share rooms. Even then, retreats are often at lodges that either have house/cabins to rent or rooms designed for families.
