Battier posting up his defender and using the hook shot??

When yao went out during the Cavs game, we dumped the ball to battier to post up and use the hook shot, he was even doubled on a couple of plays IIRC

Is that the best/most efficient method of offense we can conjure up when our two superstars are absent??

(lets assume Bonzi will never see the court)

Battier's move works pretty well, i'm looking forward that he can do that a few more times every game, although Yao and T-mac are on court, since it will be exhausting for Yao and t-mac to do every play.

But I think the best move without Yao and t-mac is Rafer penetrates, either he goes for a layup, or pass it to head at 3 or chuck/howard in the paint.

Rafer's teardrops arent reliable enough especially if he is defended well

passing it to head is not a go to move i think because head cant create himself

battier is our best option and going to him when yao and mac are out is our strategy. rafer and luther head cant create their own shots and if i had a nickel everytime rafer missed a floater i'd be a rich man.

with yao and tmac both off the court, rockets doesn't have a reliable scoring strategy in half court.

When Yao and Tmac are absent, my Go-To move is headed to the Red Rowdie section for some homey comfort. And that is what my doctor advises, too.

For all you at home watching, your best move might be taken from the Brimful of Asha lyrics,

"Everyone needs a bosum for a pillow, everyone needs a bosum"

momma!!! TMac is down. Where's my momma!

there was couple of play for luther too. in the 4th quarter luther would come out of picks and shoot the midrange shot. i didn't see wat exactly happen, but thats a pretty good play. one thing i hate is when juawn gets an offense rebound he shoots his hook shot, instead of passing it out.

When Yao and McGrady are out, I like the tiny ball lineup with the 3 guards and Battier and .........dare I say it, Juwan. This is when Juwan can be effective is when you play him at the 5 in a pseudo Phoenix lineup with 3 small guards that race it up the floor. Then you put Juwan in a situation where he is actually smaller than the opposing 5 most of the time and he can actually get out in transition and we have the advantage. And then Shane going to the post ups seems to be working quite well. Goodness man. Last night Luther was just pushing the ball like mad down the court. I don't think it is so much what the Go-T0 move or Go-To player is as much as it is the lineup and style that we go with. We went into hyper scramble mode last night and ran Cleveland out. It worked. When you throw some combination of VSpan/JLIII and Rafer out there along with Luther you have a pretty good combination of penetration and shooting working for you with Shane and Juwan also being very good shooters. No, they aren't efficient but the speed and quickness of that lineup forces most teams to have to play a style they don't want to play. It won't work against a team like Phoenix probably. But there is only 1 Phoenix. Most teams prefer some other tempo besides hyper speed.

When Yao and McGrady are out, we need to go into hyperspeed and run, run, run, and throw the ball around like mad.

    I'll take it over:

A rafer desperation 3 or playground teardrop
A luther head drive to a missed layup (he nailed those last year, but this year his 3pt is better)
A juwon slow motion post-fake fadeaway
Tossing it up and hoping Chuck Hayes cleans up

We really don't have anything else. Hopefully, we can work out some set plays from Novak once he gets some confidence. The only set plays i can tolerate now is a pick and roll to a luther three, or a battier post move.

JVG just gave a big praise on Head last night for driving to the basket and passing it to Yao for a monster dunk. The great thing about that move was to break the shooting fest enjoying by the rockets thus creating a variety of move and eventually shutting down the will to play of the Cavs.

Shane Battier is the 3rd option for now. I've already analyzed it here:
    http://bbs.clutchfans.com/showthread.php?t=120592&page=1&pp=20

And the Luther Head midrange jumper play worked once last night, if I remember...but it's generally not a high percentage play. The stats prove it, for Head is 3/24 from midrange on the season.

Sadly but yes. Battier will be our third option if both TMAC and Yao is out. Battier posting up is quite reliable. Who saw him post up Lebron James (who is strong for a SF) and score with a little hook shot? It's sad we don't see Battier's offensive moves more. Battier is a great role player.

But is Battier's post up always going to work? No. That's exactly why we need Bonzi Wells to play for us. Bonzi Wells would be a great third option but I doubt we will see Bonzi in a Rockets uniform any time soon.
